I know I'm a little late to the party, but you and /u/SalameToYouAll might be interested in this Hex graph paper. Apparently engineers and designers use them...
I recently bought this booklet and it's great! The only downside is that the pages are double-sided. Although the pages are a little thicker than the printer/copier paper I come across at work, if you use pens or markers, they might bleed through - I haven't tested that though, though, as I do all of my drawing in pencil because I'm still sort of new.
These hexes are pretty small at 1/4 inch, but I find that I like smaller hexes more than larger ones for showing large-scale maps. Anyway, maybe this info will help, maybe it won't.

Oh, this is grate if you want to come up with your own designe.

To be fair... anybody that says that hex paper is tough to get really isn't putting much effort into it.
