Been collecting records for a long time now and this is my third and likely final turntable. I started with an old 70’s Dual my parents passed onto me. The cartridge and motor failed and I eventually junked it and bought a Project Debut Carbon. I enjoyed the hell out of that table for the last 5-6 years until I recently had to take it in for repairs and out of curiosity went to a local shop to compare turntables with the PDC.

I did a straight up comparison of the PDC with a Concept using both MM and MC carts. I was blown away, it was night and day and really interesting hearing both on a sound system much more detailed than mine at home (I have some old RTR-180D’s that are absolutely magical, but more on the warm side with lots of tone, but lacking in super high detailed imaging).

I love the elegance of the design. It’s got fewer moving parts than the PDC, yet much more flexibility. No need for a separate acrylic platter or outboard speedbox for convenience and hum and static reduction, everything is there. Lack of a cover is annoying, but I bought a generic dust cover that works. I went with a MM Ortofon Bronze so I could use it with my Lounge Audio LCRMKIII which is a fantastic phono stage for the price, but it only supports MM and I loved the Red.

Impressions: The first thing I notice with this table and cart is the lack of noise/dust. The Bronze makes a HUGE difference here. My records sound so much cleaner, even though I’ve been cleaning them the same. The sound also has an incredible 3d depth to it now that it didn’t with the PDC. I noticed this straight away at the shop on the $$$$ setup, and I can hear it at home as well, but since the highs roll off more on my speakers it’s more subtle. Clear as day difference on the LCDs. That’s probably more the cart than the table. But the Concept has NO audible hum from the motor. Only odd thing is the belt makes a high pitch sound when you first turn it on, but supposedly applying a bit of talcum powder fixes that. Anyone of you tried that?

The LCR pairs really really well with the Bronze. Everything is warmer and richer in tone, definitely have more bass definition and quantity than the Red, but I was comparing with the built in stage with my Marantz, which, while decent, lacks punch. Often had to EQ it up before I got the LCR.

Lastly, and this is my favorite discovery, all of my records that skipped with the old turntable now don’t skip!!!! Have any of you discovered this with nicer carts or styli? A couple records I would never play due to skips now play flawlessly and sound better than ever. A couple were quite rare. This is huge, and alone worth the price of the cartridge, not even taking in the sound.

First thing I played on it was Rival Console’s Howl. Such an incredible record. Very happy with this setup and looking forward to enjoying it for years and years. Also, if you couldn't tell, I have a penchant for black and aluminum

If you're looking for a cheap dust cover, this one is $25 off Amazon.

If you're looking for an original plastic cover, they're hard to come by since they don't make them anymore or they're expensive ($129 last I checked). You're going to have a tough time getting a turntablist to give you theirs, as our turntable equipment mean everything to us. Dust is the enemy.

If you want quality though, go with fuzeebear's suggestion and get a Decksaver. They're stronger, look better, and can take a beating. I bought Decksavers and they're worth every penny.
