The Authoritative, The Essenial and the Indispensable

Can be bought together, used, for well under $20, and that should cover most (or a very good portion of) the comics.

It's from the The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes

Like venusonfire said, you won't find any official posters. Make your own and spend your money on Calvin and Hobbes books instead :D

If anyone is wondering, I just did some homework and found out the comic I had never seen was from The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes and you can click through "Look Inside" here to read the whole thing if you haven't before. Because my family already had Yukon Ho! and Weirdos from Another Planet we never got this one.

But that's just expanding on my experience. I'd still love to hear if this has happened to anyone else who fancied themselves pretty well-versed already.

At the risk of coming across as facetious, I will say that there is an actual starting point, namely. Barring that I would highly recommend any of the Essential, Authoritative, or Indispensable collections, mostly because I like the format of those books the best for lounging and reading, but it could be argued they also contain the best collection, the Authoritative is my favourite. In truth I don't believe you can go wrong no matter where you choose to start, they are all more or less equally hilarious, and he doesn't generally reference old strips so you can start with any strip.

I envy your discovery of Watterson's wonderful world.
