The two stories run a bit in tandem. The only big thing you've missed is Siri's role, and he's the central character in Blindsight.
I'm currently reading LaValle's Ballad of Black Tom. The author is a black fan of Lovecraft's work who (along with being a great writer) confronts Lovecraft's racism and works it into the plot.
I bring this up because that's a bit what Watts has done. Big, uncaring, (to us) sinister universe? You betcha. Dread of "something out there" that might stomp us underfoot? Oh yeah.
Along these same lines, if you guys haven't read The Ballad of Black Tom, I strongly suggest it. Stylish Lovecraftian horror, black protagonist, racial tensions amidst the horror (though not at all overwhelming or "agenda-driven"). I really enjoyed it.
Ballad of Black Tom by Vicor LaValle is a really good re-imagining of "The Horror at Red Hook" by Lovecraft.
The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaVelle, it's only 150 pages long and it's only £1.66 on the Kindle store at the moment.
