That's exactly right. He totally thought he was one of the good guys. In some ways... he actually was. He wasn't "brainwashed." He's your family. I'm just kind of joking around about the jew stuff to get a rise out of people, but your uncle didn't do a damn thing wrong. Hey, have you read that book about that german fighter pilot that shot down like 300 some planes on the eastern front? Great book... wait, I'll go look it up, I forget the name. Here's the book. It's fun. Not too deep or thoughtful, but it will give you some sympathy for your uncle if you like this kind of stuff. He shot down more planes than anyone in history.

The Blonde Knight of Germany, good book.
I've read "Holt Hartmann vom Himmel" which translates to "Shoot Hartmann down", its an biography of Erich Hartmann and was very very nice to read. I dont know if this is the correct book, but the authors are the same. I can highly reccomend this book.,
If you haven't I highly recommend you read about Erich Hartmann - bio here - other more expensive book here.. honestly I can't remember which book on him I read as it was around 20 years ago, I think it was the bio. Absolutely amazing man and pilot.
