When Capitol originally released the albums in the 1960s, the sound was tweaked. They had their own producer go over the tracks and mess with them a bit (there's a bit more reverb/echo on the songs). These versions can be found on here and here.

The Capitol albums were recently re-released, however, they use the 2009 remastered tracks. So no funky reverb or anything on those.

Is there a preferred version? Both the UK and US discography have the same songs, just the albums are different until Revolver Pepper. The Beatles were upset at Capitol for 'butchering' (pun intended) their albums to sell more Beatle stuff, so I'd say go with the UK versions
