I'm the same age as your daughter.
Some months ago, I read The Code Book: How to Make It, Break It, Hack It, Crack It. It's an adaption of another book by the same writer for young people. I found it great and I strongly recommend it.
"The Code Book" by Simon Singh was what got me into crypto at an early age and now I'm work in a field where I'm hands on with crypto algorithms and equipment on a nearly daily basis.
The Code Book has an excellent explanation of its origin and its innards. The author devotes an entire chapter to PGP. In fact, the entire book is really good, and he does a good job at explaining the algorithms it covers (the chapter on the Enigma machine reads like a suspense novel). It also mentions websites where you can get implementations of it.
If you have the money, it's a must-buy.
Here are some resources I've found especially helpful for my own puzzle making and codebreaking endeavors.
