Have you read The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi? It's very similar to the standard SWN setting but in this book spike drive routes aren't the same in both directions.

In one of his videos Adam Koebel said he was using The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi as inspiration for his new SWN campaign, so I started reading it. I haven't finished it yet, but so far it's pretty interesting and the setting seems to fit really well with SWN, being a universe ruled by families/factions and having the "The Flow" as a similar traveling method to meta-dimensional spaceflight

Oh, by the way: I started reading The Collapsing Empire yesterday from one of my favorite current scifi authors (John Scalzi) and he has an action-packed and fun prologue.

My opinion (not based on facts) is that if you're an established author, it's easier to have a prologue (or anything, really). You already have an agent and a fan base.
