The only official collection of Ghibli movies is the Hayao Miyazaki Blu-ray box from Amazon.

Anything else you find is an illegal bootleg.

An Isao Takahata Blu-ray box was released in Japan, but it has not been released in America.

u/ideaprison · 12 pointsr/ghibli

This is not the first time they released a box like this (meaning the content+design), so they might again in the future. The original price was $215 during pre-order.

It was pulled from the Japanese Miyazaki box set for that reason. It was made available as a free bonus disc with proof of purchase, but only while quantities lasted, and I imagine the print run has been exhausted by now. That distribution decision is probably the reason it ended up being omitted from the Amazon-exclusive US equivalent of the Miyazaki collection too. I'm not aware of any official (licensed) US home video distribution of this short.

I don't think it was pulled from any museum exhibits, though, and AFAIK it's never been shown as a short there.

Spirited Away (or any Miyazaki movie). Maybe give her The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki for Christmas.

A Ghibli BD collection doesn't exist. Due to several companies owning the rights to individual films. The closest you'll get is The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki.

It has 10 of the 22 "Ghibli" films. No other English BD collection exists, if you see anything it's a bootleg.

You can always independently buy the BD of each film. Currently the Disney licensed ones are on sale at Costco for $18 each.

I'm saving up to buy the ultimate set on amazon but ohhhh man it is gonna be annoying to sell one of my vital organs. These movies are magic and each one has a piece of my mind and soul. Did anyone hear Hayao is not actually retiring? :)

u/Tallyburger · 4 pointsr/ghibli

There are no officially released complete sets of the Studio Ghibli films. There are some sets though that you can get, which are official:
Japanese Takahata films
Japanese Miyazaki films
North American Miyazaki films Canada
North American Miyazaki films US

I find the best place to purchase the movies is though Amazon though. They have them all, and since Amazon almost always lowers their prices to match competitors, it tends to be the best price. At the moment, Amazon Canada is matching Walmart, so all the Ghibli films are $19.96.

Most definitely a bootleg set. I fell for it once and bought it, they were pretty bad. Watchable but bad...

Here is a legit set:

It's a little pricey but totally worth it. I personally bought them one by one as they came on sale, but if you want a collectors set that one works. Do note that it's only Miyazaki movies. Wish they had one for the whole studio...

Amazon is not as nice as you think. Stuff like this is clearly fake/pirated yet still for sale on there constantly.

Real official versions are way more expensive.

Tem na Folha e na Amazon também

u/Morningxafter · 2 pointsr/movies

It's a touch expensive but you look at the price for buying all 8 of these movies on BluRay individually, and it's cheaper in the long run. I pre-ordered it, but if you're patient you can catch a good deal on it. A few weeks after it came out it was down to $199.

Based on the movies inside (and the drawing on the exterior), that seems to be the Hayao Miyazaki Directed Works Collection (or, in Japanese, 宮崎駿監督作品集). You could use google translate on the description in the entry for it or the page for the similar North American release to figure out how to describe it, but it looks like it has a disc for every Miyazaki film from Castle of Cagliostro through to The Wind Arises, with two bonus discs.

I don't know where is best to sell it (I'm not from North America, so I really have no good input here).

I know there's a Blu-ray set exclusive to Amazon, but there's also a single-case, multi-disc DVD set.

I’ve got a few:

  • Whiplash slipcover

  • The Dark Knight Rises exclusive slipcover/cover from Best Buy Canada. It comes with an exclusive 30 minutes on-disc documentary that isn’t even noted on the case, but I can verify that it’s there

  • Damnation, Werckmeister Harmonies, Almanac of Fall, and Sátántángo DVD releases from Facets Video. Aka the only NA distributor for Béla Tarr films. They took a lot of Amazon perusing and $ to finally get (I also have The Turin Horse on Blu-ray)

  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story steelbook (only version that came with a 3D disc)

  • The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki Blu-ray set

  • Chungking Express Criterion Blu-ray

  • And various Batman steelbooks from the DCAU, including The Killing Joke. Got Batman Ninja preordered and super hyped!

While this is most definitely a bootleg they did license a complete miyazaki collection
Which appears to be OOP now

The Collected Works of Hideo Miyazaki - although you can probably buy all these movies individually for cheaper.

Stanley Kubrick: The Master Collection - doesn't include some of his earlier films, unfortunately.

Universal 100th Anniversary Collection - just a lot of great films from a wide range of genres for the money.

Back to the Future 30th Anniversary Trilogy - self explanatory

Indiana Jones: Complete Adventures Collection - comes with a free Indiana Jones 4 coaster!

Sweet! I know you guys mainly do recent theatrical releases, but maybe you could watch some of the Ghibli movies? Amazon sells a collection of Ghibli films directed by Miyazaki, and Fathom Events will be having a Ghibli series in theaters this year. The Wind Rises is a more recent film that is intended for an adult audience, so I would recommend that one the most for you guys.

Are you talking about this one?

Because it says in the product details that there are subtitles. There's more info here as well which says there's English audio tracks available.

Hayao Miyazaki Collection is the closest thing I ever found. After you get this there's only a handful left. I think?

u/Alexstarfire · 1 pointr/movies

Do you know which version is in the Miyazaki collection?

u/joelgotsoul · 1 pointr/ghibli

Yeah, this one. It really is a quite gorgeous set of (just) Hayao Miyazaki's work, since the oeuvre is now complete.

u/dogonaroof · 1 pointr/movies

I believe so. Or it feels that way. I think it's amazon purchase only
