I've heard Lewis' main value is in his area of expertise (which shouldn't be surprising). I've read a number of Lewis' books. I read LOTR before Narnia so Narnia always sucked (probably by comparison) and his apologetic works lack philosophical depth (to say the least). I still have an appreciation for "The Four Loves".

Fun game there of only giving two choices when there are many more. You also have the choice of seeing early Genesis written as "myth" (classically defined; not "untrue", but a genre of communicating truth) and written through the lenses of ancient cosmology. This doesn't discredit the faith in the least.

Couple of books I'd recommend to the OP (assuming The Meek wouldn't actually be open to them): C.S. Lewis' The Discarded Image (on ancient and medieval cosmology) and John Walton's The Lost World of Genesis One: Ancient Cosmology and the Origins Debate.
