I'm not really an urban farmer by any stretch of the term, but I do have a few vegetable plants on my patio. I really enjoyed reading the book Farm City by Novella Carpenter. It is more of a memoir, but I know she has another book called The Essential Urban Farmer.

I haven't read much of it, but if it is anything like her other book, I am sure it will be a great resource. She has chapters on getting and prepping land, soil testing, plants, chickens, dairy goats, honey bees, etc.
