Not really what you are looking for -- I can't really think of an anime that is sort of a travelogue/observation of American life through Japanese eyes. There might be some in the world of manga, right off the top of my head I'm thinking of The Four Immigrants Manga.
Looking at my Amazon history, I mostly ordered stuff with utility....computer parts, tick medicine for the dog, camping supplies...haha.
This is the most interesting thing:
The Four Immigrants, this graphic novel drawn by a Japanese immigrant in San Francisco, in the 1920s. If you love history then it's pretty awesome, it's so of its time! And pretty funny, but the translator notes in the beginning that you may not find it as funny if you're unfamiliar with basic Japanese customs. He does do his best to footnote that stuff.
