Its basically just Nintendo title DLC, but theres quite a bit on there; all sold directly from Nintendo.
They also sell Nintendo US eshop codes (no need for a physical card), but they recently updated it to where you may need a US VPN to buy them.

You are correct, you would only need to buy a SD Card if he fills up the internal storage by downloading lots of games.
The Breath of the Wild DLC is on Amazon here but it's only a code and not a physical item.
Now this isn't Steam.. And I understand if you aren't willing, but there is no harm in trying! I've really been wanting to get the Breath of the Wild Expansion pass. It's $20 and you can get a code on amazon.

It has two DLC packs, one of which is already out, the next is in Holiday 2017. The one that is already out gives you more armors, master mode, and it makes the game a LOT harder. In a few months the new story content will also be out, and I don't want to miss out.
