The Magus by John Fowles. I've never been more immersed or obsessed by a novel in my entire life. Could NOT put it down. And the ending? I literally threw the book across the room in a fugue state of conflicting emotions.

Read it and you'll never forget the experience.

The screencap is from "The Magus" (1968) if anyone is interested. IMO, the book is much better than the movie but both have merits.
