Thanks for the response. I'll give a sparce reading list, as I find it pretty extensive.
Zizek:
Zizek has plenty of essays and talks floating around as well, but these books are probably the best--the first and second are the most sustained, the third is a lengthy essay making use of theological resources. The fourth contains essays by Eagleton, Vattimo, and Badiou. The fifth is one where he dialogues with theologians about St. Paul. The sixth is a debate with a theologian about theology. The final is a great collection of people all across the board, mostly Marxists, dealing with theology.
Vattimo:
Eagleton:
Eagleton also specializes in short and helpful articles.
Badiou:
Misc. Authors too extensive to list:
Secondary Literature:
Hopefully someone comes by and expands this list. I've gotta get back to work.
>Theology is the study of God and as such is itself a religious exercise.
How long would the list of atheist theologians and atheists who engage theology need to be before you drop this idea?
For example, I'll be reading atheist Slavoj Zizek's The Monstrosity of Christ: Paradox or Dialectic? later today.
What Would Jesus Deconstruct? and The Weakness of God: A Theology of the Event by John Caputo.
Phenomenology of Spirit by Hegel.
Origen: An Exhortation to Martyrdom, Prayer, and Selected Works
The Monstrosity of Christ: Paradox or Dialectic? by Slavoj Zizek and John Milbank
The Courage to Be by Paul Tillich
The Gay Science and The Antichrist by Nietzsche
God in Pain: Inversions of Apocalypse by Slavoj Zizek and Boris Gunjevic
The Essential Writings of Christian Mysticism
After the Death of God by John Caputo and Gianni Vattimo
Slavoj Žižek is one of the most important intellectuals in the world right now. Check out his writing on Christianity, especially the book The Monstrosity of Christ coauthored with theologian John Milbanks. But I also really like the CP-inspired writers like Stanley Fish and Richard Rorty.
