This item has wolves on it which makes it intrinsically sweet and worth 5 stars by itself, but once I tried it on, that's when the magic happened. After checking to ensure that the shirt would properly cover my girth, I walked from my trailer to Wal-mart with the shirt on and was immediately approached by women. The women knew from the wolves on my shirt that I, like a wolf, am a mysterious loner who knows how to 'howl at the moon' from time to time (if you catch my drift!). The women that approached me wanted to know if I would be their boyfriend and/or give them money for something they called mehth. I told them no, because they didn't have enough teeth, and frankly a man with a wolf-shirt shouldn't settle for the first thing that comes to him.

Okay, ironic is a slippery word and it's meaning is very specific and a bit esoteric. However, like "pretentious", many people nowadays use it to describe something a little different from what it means. In this use, I meant it in the sense that kids wear and purchase things that they don't necessarily genuinely like, but wear for a value of humour.

For example, the Three Wolf Shirt gained a lot of popularity in "hipster culture" because it was "cool", but not for the reasons the creators intended. Hip kids who wear it are not especially fans of wolves or The Mountain's other designs but found a special absurdity in this particular design.

So, a GnR shirt might be worn "ironically" by someone who wants to invoke a sense of nostalgia or humour (especially with a more over the top design, like this) but doesn't actually listen to or even respect the band. They wear it strictly for its fashion properties.

This gets really murky when kids who actually love a band like GnR (or Poison, Scorpions, etc.) wears a shirt like this, but wears it in this style. It is very hard to tell when kids are "being ironic" or expressing genuine support. My favorite example of this is the fanny pack. It was originally marketed towards yuppies and soccer moms, then, later on, hipsters started wearing them out of irony. Certain people took this to mean they were "fashionable", so people wore them because they were convenient and stylish. They never were and still aren't, but now you've got all these idiots walking around with fanny packs and no one can tell who's "cool" and who is a nerd.

Moral of story: Don't wear things out of irony because you still look like an idiot even if your friends think it's funny or kitchy.

I'm not gonna lie: I don't find this sort of writing helpful at all, not for my purposes anyway. It is too smart and learned, it picks its points and makes them with examples and therefore asks you to justify thinking another way.

But zen advocates exactly this direct observation of the tao. The koans to me are language behaving like an escape artist, getting itself out of the way. Less Jesus and more Houdini. I'm assuming it had a similar origin to the Three Wolf Moon. The HDMI cable is stupidly over priced and everyone knows it. So they figured they'd have fun with it. The T-shirt on the other hand was kinda the originator of the comedic reviews. People have been praising the shirt for its mystic abilities for years now. No one knows who started it. Shirts like this became popular ironically for awhile (see the reviews as an example of some of the jokes people made.) Anyone who wears them unironically is usually unashamedly nerdy, a little sheltered, and totally unaware of the meme-status of shirts like this. My coworker was definitely this kind of guy, and I loved his innocence and his over-the-top passion for Vampire: The Masquerade.
