If you can stomach the hippie dippie woo woo, and just recognize the "energy techniques" for what they are -- means of accessing capabilities in your brain you can't manipulate consciously without symbolic aids (vocal coaches talk about shit like this all the time) -- these techniques actually work, and it's... mind blowing.

I'd also be interested to see if anyone has any other recommendations for reading material on the topic.
