I remember reading in The Official Godzilla Compendium that wearing the suit was actually pretty dangerous, as it was quite heavy and unventilated and the performer had to wear it for hours at a time. There were many incidents of fainting, as I recall.

I sure hope so, because that was an awesome book to have. Based on current prices, I think that book is a collectors item now.
