If anyone is interested in this subject and also a comic book fan, Will Eisner did a wonderful graphic novel about it. It covers the history as well as how it was debunked in courts. It was Eisner's last novel.

The Jewish always behaved as an ethnic group way before the concept of 'ethnic group' was even conceived, and that helps to explain why they were perceived as somehow foreigners everywhere which lead to jewish persecution in lots of different places centuries before the holocaust. There's much to write about this, but just to prove you wrong, let's say that Theodor Herzl published in 1896 - when Hitler was a little kid - a book called Der Judenstaat (The State of the Jews), which the main argument was to "solve the 'jewish question'". You know, the question of the... jewish people. It's not as simple as in other religions to convert to judaism, and why is that? Because they believe they're a group of people chosen by God as it is in the Old Testament. You can also read The Plot, by Will Eisner that adds a lot of good info on this subject.

The reason why people make fun of the KKK on TV this way - like the South Park episode you like - is exactly because their ideas and acts are unacceptable. They may be perceived as a joke now, but there's nothing funny about their acts in the past, and yes, people cared about these murderers. If "we" didn't care, they would be committing their crimes freely everywhere. And they're not. If they received institutional support, it is because institutions are made by real people, and sometimes, you had Klan members being part of those institutions, right?

My fave Will Eisner graphic novel on the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Seems most relevant now.

> they are based on comics so obviously, in my view, they are for children

That is just silly. I mean I am sorry that you got such a wrong impression but you did. They use pictures and words to tell stories. So did Hogarth. So did Blake. So do movies. I would love to know how Thomas Nast was for adults but Will Eisner is for children. (Check out A Contract with God or The Plot: The Secret Story of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and tell me they are for children.)

I can highly recommend Will Eisner's book on the subject. Your family won't read it of course, because Eisner is himself a jew, but it's a beautifully drawn and insightful recount of the creation of the Protocols.
