> But it objectively does. If you can't see the pattern with this and games falling apart you just aren't paying attention. Bringing negative energy into a game keeps people from having fun. It diminishes their drive to win. It erodes trust between teammates.

Just because positivity works with some people does not mean it is the only way to get results, nor does it mean it's the best way to get results.

Positive thinking actually sometimes increases negative outcome results.. Studies have shown in reality it's a matter of who we already are, or rather how we are conditioned to respond stimulus, that determines whether we respond better to positive or negative stimuli.

Which goes back to what Moonmeander pointed out. In HoN, by culturing a community that learned to deal with negative energy, things were better off overall because you didn't have eggshells players who would tilt if anyone is mean. It is a far more sound strategy for everyone to be prepared to deal with negativity than to expect everyone to be positive.

And, again, I already pointed out that someone has statistically shown that negativity produces positive results in DotA.

Many successful leaders utilize negative reinforcement over positive ones. It is actually particularly note worthy as a strategy in sports, something that has more than passing parallels to competitive video games.

Steve Jobs and Bill Gates both were notorious for being confrontational, demanding, and "hard to work for/with." And it's that pressure that kept their companies on top. Gordon Ramsay is lauded as one of the best chefs in the world, and he's almost more famous for his mouth than his food. Jeff Bezos from Amazon believes that office "harmony" is overrated and in Amazon he believes that it is appropriate for feedback to be "blunt to the point of painful." Many companies are bucking the trend and finding that "getting along" to try work together better is overrated. https://hbr.org/product/wiser-getting-beyond-groupthink-to-make-groups-smarter/2299E-KND-ENG

Wanting a change is bring you to this question because you are positive without knowing it. I don't think that it is true when people say that they are not positive. If you want to be positive, then you belief that being positive is possible. It's a bit confusing to think this way but it makes sense once you really think it through.

Changing the way you think is not something that I would advice. We have self-defense mechanisms. Conditioning. Personalities. Values. All these things are "psychological facts." And what this means is that after a life of living in one sort of way you actually build up "anti-bodies". This is what self-defense mechanisms basically are. These are your "go-to responses".

Here is a link on Self-Defense Mechanisms which you probably won't understand too well but it doesn't feel too good to have posted on here without linking some proof like this. So this might actually be a helpful reference guide even if it isn't too clear.

Here is a book that might interest you:

The Power of Negative Thinking

I haven't read this book to be honest, but I am familiar with some theories related to this subject. Basically, some of the most rational people in the world tend to be "negative-thinkers". And this makes sense since negative thinking is keeping people from trying dangerous activities, from making bad business practices, or from getting hooked on heroine. Negative Thinking is useful And Negative Thinking can give you some very good results once it starts working for you.

The problem here is that Negative Thinking shouldn't be keeping you from anything. It should be telling you how to do things right. If you want to be happy, Negative Thinking should be telling you to think about the long-run, to get your responsibilities sorted out first and then to worry about happiness. If you want to be healthy, Negative Thinking should be telling you that Soda is unhealthy and fattening and that hundreds of dollars a week on a vegan diet is a waste if you aren't allergic to gluten. It should tell you to eat health and to be smart about pricing. And if you are worried about your future, Negative Thinking should help you by worrying about unemployment, a lack of education and bad habits and getting these sorted out. Finding good employment. Getting a good education if you can. If not, making your own time to study in private. And building good habits.

All these good things can come after Negative-Thinking. You see? What matters is what comes after Negative Thinking. If after thinking "Negatively" you feel lazy and depressed, then that is unhealthy. But if after Negative Thinking you worry about fitness and work out, if you worry about chores and do them, and if you worry about friends and find them or a partner along the way, then this is a different type of Negative Thinking.

Look, if you had a troubled past- which it sounds like you did- then you don't need to pretend that all is perfect in this life. The fact that you posted on here proves this. Thinking Negatively came from a past that made you think this way. And in my humble opinion, you should be making your way of thinking into a strength. Into something of value for you. You can't think like this person or that person. You can only think like you. And seeing the better side of life starts by accepting and growing in a positive way by working with what you have already. Even if this begins with Negative Thinking. And even if it turns out that this thinking helped you by seeing things that others couldn't. Maybe your Negative Thinking will do wonders for you one day. Who knows. But it never means that you have to be depressed ; D It just means that you are more likely to see the downside and avoid it as way of getting a good result. And thinking straight sometimes means seeing the downside.
