i'll read it after i've finished The Nights Dawn trilogy by Peter Hamilton which i'm seriously loving!
Apart from the fact the the only gays so far seem to be psychotic satanists... but hey! at least we exist in this universe!
Not quite sure why you're getting so many fantasy novel recommendations ... but, for SF, I always recommend Peter F Hamilton: Night's Dawn Trilogy
And no, in Dune, Paul is always emotionally distant from the reader ( but also cares too much ) ... it's part of his curse and what makes him a flawed hero. Herbert, in part, wants you to focus on 'Dune' as a character itself, you're supposed to be connecting with the setting more than the characters.
