Seth Roberts' "Shangri-La Diet"
... although it's really more of an appetite suppressant technique, as opposed to a diet (still, it works)

A guy named Seth Roberts published a diet book called the “Shangri-La diet“ about this.

You basically drank a couple tablespoons of fat a couple of times a day and your hunger went to zero. The weight just burned off.

He recommended using extra light olive oil, but it also worked with coconut oil when I tried it.

The way it's repackaged and sold over and over as a "diet" (weight watchers, jenny craig, etc...etc...etc...) is what I'm referring to as a consistent and recurring fad. As you suggest, the principles are grounded in reality; and therefore, the existence of this recurring fad is evidence that our education hasn't failed us.

OK, so....what's with the next 4 paragraphs of red herring addressing my aside? You didn't even mention exercise in your original comment! I wasn't arguing with anything you said other than your opening statement. Our argument stops there. The rest was just me sharing my perspective...which happened to be right in line with the raw information you provided.

At least you finally got down to brass tacks (edit: was tax...oops) and asked for details with the last word of your post. I'll give you credit for that. Below is a cohesive reference for what I believe is an up and coming diet trend. It's not a method for supercharging or your BMR as you seem to have inferred. The general idea is to keep your BMR ticking smoothly as a means of manipulating your appetite. You want your BMR to continuously tick smoothly because when you run out of calories and it slows down...appetite kicks in and food gorging commences. Here:
