Going on a completely different path here, which you probably won't be interested in - but then again may not have thought of. Have you tried reading non-fiction books about disturbing things like this?

I have read lots of books, and I'm telling you, finding out about how Jeffrey Dahmer drilled a hole into a teenage boy's skull to try and make him docile disturbed me a lot more than any fiction book I've read. Or reading about how Fred and Rose West tortured their own daughter before murdering her. Or how Ted Bundy kept severed heads as trophies like we might keep ornaments.

In a just as disturbing vein to this (but for me, harder to stomach) are books relating to abuse. Reading about the survival of Shy Keenan in her autobiography, after she was continuously raped, abused and beaten so hard she went deaf was so shocking it still haunts me to this day (I read it about 5 years ago). Likewise, Jaycee Dugard's tale of being kidnapped and tied up in a caravan in a kidnapper's back yard, suffering frequent rape and abuse for 18, yes 18 whole years.

Terrifyingly, sometimes real life is more depraved and violent than anything a fiction writer can make up. Here's some links to mentioned subjects, in case you wanted to take a look.

> With live animals, he explored their bodies to discover where their bones were located.

that is a direct quote from his wikipedia page. the source is this book. to me that sounds like vivisection.

maybe i was wrong about him killing cats, but this shows that even from a young age he was doing things like abusing animals.

again though, you are missing the point. his psychopathy only grew with age.

In my opinion, it is the only book you should read about Dahmer if you want to know everything about his childhood, crimes, trial etc. Very well written and factually accurate. Other books I have read about him always get things wrong which is annoying, so I would highly recommend this book.
