The (sort of) Dark Mage By Nelson Chereta

The main character grew up in a society of Dark Mages and he lives according to that upbringing. The book has some dark undertones but it's much more dark humor than an actually grim world.

He's on a quest to obtain familiars (monster slaves) and prove himself to his dark society. Really I can't recommend this book enough it's a very fun read.

It sounds like you need the adventures of the vile necromancer, known as Waldo Rabbit: https://www.amazon.com/sort-Dark-Mage-Waldo-Rabbit-ebook/dp/B00C8A543S
