Anyone when they were a kid, read the book on Louis Pasteur
The dogs with rabies taught me early on to stay away from rabid shit. And the kid had to get needles injected into his stomach I think?

I knew pastuer was was involved with vaccines but I remember him developing pastuerization. I remembered the vaccine thing because of a cartoon or book about a rabies vaccine with a rabid dog.

Hi and thanks for your answer. I don't find it crazy at all. In fact, both our kids are fans of the book series "The Value Of" (like this one here). Real-world models are, well, the best models for a real-world kid. :-)

We do intend on subscribing him to a martial arts class, but not just yet. We want to wait until his listening skills improve a little bit, and to find the right school. I have been trying to show some fighting moves to him myself, emphasising that we'd do it outside only, but yeah, he definitely has troubles understanding that concept.

Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan are indeed two excellent models, I'll try and see what I can find written by or about them. Thanks again !

I'd have read those as a kid, too bad we didn't know each other for tradesies purposes. I was a bit of a nerd, though.

Also, I actually found the Pasteur book! Here it is on Amazon.

The series was called "The Value of..." and the Pasteur-specific story was The Value of Believing in Yourself.

The Value of Believing in Yourself: The Story of Louis Pasteur.

All I remember is the terrifying dog, and the kid that totally deserved to get rabies (he teases the dog with a stick every day, one day the dog gets rabies, the gate is left open, he bites the kid, L.P. saves the day).

Came here looking for this. :) I vividly remember that Louis Pasteur story.

Was it part of a book series? It sounds a lot like one I had as a child and each book had a different history/science theme with a different object as the guide.

Edit: Part of this series

A favorite book growing up was a book about Louis Pasteur and how his rabies vaccine works. It’s my favorite book because my mother translated it into Spanish so I “could learn”. The book itself is about believing in yourself. It is a much older book, but can still be found and enjoyed.

I remember reading this book as a kid: https://www.amazon.com/Value-Believing-Yourself-Pasteur-Valuetales/dp/0916392066

Basically it shows how Louis Pasteur created a treatment for rabies. A kid who was bitten by a rabid animal is treated by him and the kid survives. So for years I thought while rabies is very serious, if you are infected with rabies all you have to get is a single shot and you'll be fine.

Cut to years later and learning that rabies treatment involves a lot of shots and the success rate is very low.
