I really liked Undress Me In The Temple Of Heaven by Susan Jane Gilman. It's about these two fresh-out-of-college American girls that go backpacking through China during the 80's and the impact that it had on them.

Not really sure if this one counts as a memoir, but check out The Wild Truth by Carine McCandless. It's about Christopher McCandless's childhood, whom the film Into The Wild is based on. It's written by his sister and the forward is by Jon Krakauer, who wrote the original book.

When you are finished you should pick up The Wild Truth
by his sister Carine McCandless - tells the family side of the story and gives a wider picture of the whole story. A very good read!
