Your bad breath could have a few causes.

Dry mouth from slight dehydration or from ketones because you're dipping into ketosis between meals. Drink more water firstly and I think gum or sugar free mints are fine - sometimes we over think things and get lost in the details.

I highly recommend a tongue scraper for general oral hygiene and maybe give this mouthwash
and toothpaste a try. Something like this may be helpful for dry mouth that comes along with fasting/ketone breath.

I had severe halitosis for years. It was really, really bad.

After years of trying various products and techniques, and figuring out that many toothpastes and mouthwash products can actually make things worse, this is what worked for me:

Floss with a Reach brand flosser. This is much easier than the strings, so I actually do it.

Ah, I see, based on /u/kartoffeln514's response, it tastes bad? I don't use a strong minty toothpaste, so I never really noticed. I use Dr. Katz TheraBreath Oxygenating Toothpaste, which has a very subtle taste.
