I can see where a storm alarm would be more useful if you're hiking up in the mountains. Weather changes can really fuck up your day, though you should always have an eye on the skies anyways. Wouldn't make much of a difference if you've just accepted the suck or came prepared, though.

A wrist compass is generally only good as an emergency backup, at least in my personal opinion.

The altimeter and barometer are very nice features for an outdoors watch, I think.

I use one of these things. I've gotta say, it does everything I really need out of a watch and it can take a beating. It's very worry-free watch. I don't have trouble reading it in the sun or anything, but I guess results vary on eyesight. It has a pretty similar display to the way the Suunto looks based on the picture. I have no real qualms about it though. Pretty solid beater all in all.

Never, EVER spend hundreds of dollars on some fancy aviator/tactical watch for a "field watch".

Seriously what do you need this thing for?. You don't need all those features, they're high maintenance, most people forget how to use the slide rule, and all the pilots I have known just carry a damn calculator with them in their flight bag anyway! This watch is meant just to look pretty.

Something like this is all you will need. It tells time, you can see it in the dark, it's got a stop watch that tracks laps, shock proof, and water resistant. That's honestly all you need, the compass is really unnecessary as the army will issue leadership a compass and every unit these days has a GPS anyway.

Another thing, let's be honest. There are some shady motherfuckers in the Army that will gank that pretty little watch of yours when you're in the shower.

Since it says you're DEP, and are probably asking for Basic....

This right here is all you need. All you need to know in Basic is what time it is, and have an alarm to wake up for your CQ/Fire Guard shift.
