Get a baby gate like this, this, or this.

We have one of these: http://www.amazon.com/North-States-Industries-Supergate-Extra/dp/B0002JETPQ but its just shy of 9 feet. Its not the most elegant, but it works and its not that pricey

I have two of these. I know it isn't pressure mounted like you wanted, but it's a good inexpensive option. We have a VERY open floorplan, and we didn't want to break the bank. Some of the reviews will say they are rickety, and yes they kid can shake them because they aren't pressure mounted, but I've never felt like she could break them and hurt herself. We wanted pressure mounted too, but I'm just not sure you can do it that way with that wide of a space?
