We made one of these and it's been a lifesaver for us. Our son loves to watch us cook and we feel comfortable knowing he's not going to fall and crack open his noggin. Also we have dedicated areas for him to play in the kitchen (the Tupperware cabinet, the recycling bin with the clean recycling, magnets on the fridge, etc.). My son is currently obsessed with gears, so we bought him these fun little magnets which keep him busy.
I bought a couple gates to corral him in the kitchen and I can usually get 20 minutes of straight prep time, especially if I hand him a whisk and a bowl to play with while he's watching me from his stool!
