You can plant a tree midsummer no problem, but you need to damn near drown it everyday for 2 weeks so it can get established. The best thing to do is buy a treegator bag and refill it every two days or so.

Certified arborist here. LIMITIED pruning even before full establishment is ok, but try not to remove live tissue in the summer. The best time to remove live tissue is during the winter months. Eventually that lead on the right will probably need to be subordinated. Here is a link to University of Florida urban forestry professor's (gillman) work on structural pruning young trees. Very easy reading for the non-expert.
