You don't need an official headset. I know several people who often use the headphones that came with their phone (the type with a built in mic). There are also several cheap licensed headsets on the market. I have the Tritton Kama. It has decent sound quality and good voice quality. Edit: also, the PS4 comes with a single earbud and mic that plugs into the controller so you should have that at least.

If you have the newer controller, you can just plug this directly into it.

These are great I bought them on holiday sale for $15, figured I'd take a chance. They're comfortable and have never let me down. I prefer wired over BT.

Get this, my bro got these after using my Kunais and he loves them. The Kama actually have a mute mic since it's made specifically for PS4. While Kunai was made for last gen consoles.

I do something similar but it involves a very long HDMI cable going from my ps4 to my computer monitor. I use these for sound plugged into my controller. My girlfriend likes to watch certain shows, so it's a doable solution every now and then.
