The gold box is DVD, not Blu Ray.   So, you have to decide based on price and how much of a completist you are. So, two purchases, about 80 bucks.

The 2017 season is not officially called The Return though. The real name of the 2017 season is a whole subject to itself, it seems.

According to Sabrina Sutherland (executive producer) in her AMA on here in 2017, The Return was a marketing strategy used by Showtime to differentiate the season from the original series. She goes on to claim that "Twin Peaks" is the official name and that there is no subtitle.

However, the official Blu-ray release is entitled Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series. I am not sure if this is more editorializing to differentiate this from the original series or what was eventually decided to be the official title.

I think people just refer to the 2017 season as "Season 3" out of convenience, since it is the third season in the chronology.
