al stump wrote two biographies on ty cobb where he did the classic "lie for attention" thing and published a lot of untrue things about ty and the way he lived his life and carried out his business in order to sell more copies. this biography by charles leerhsen sets out to disprove a lot of what stump wrote and set the record straight, i highly recommend it.

That sounds a lot like Ty Cobb: A Terrible Beauty. I was so happy to finally read a book that tried to not just make him look like a dick and actually laid out facts with items to back it up. It really changed my mind on the dude a bit.
I'll have to check that one out too!
