Basically every Android device made in the past 6 years supports this functionality. It is called "USB On-The-Go". You simply need a readily available adapter to change whatever charging port your phone has into a female USB Type A port.

Android itself has always natively supported USB devices such as keyboards, mice, USB storage devices (flash drives, DVD drives), USB audio devices, etc.. You can even plug in a USB hub and connect multiple devices at once; using your phone/tablet as a quasi-desktop computer if you wanted.

They even make ones that allow you to keep charging your phone while having a device plugged into it: https://www.amazon.com/AuviPal-Micro-USB-Cable-Power/dp/B07FY9Z9GD/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=usb+micro+otg&qid=1558373675&s=gateway&sr=8-5

I I just discovered they even make USB OTG hubs! https://www.amazon.com/Rocketek-Adapter-MacBook-Smartphones-Function/dp/B07MJ61TJV/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=usb+otg+hub&qid=1558374272&s=gateway&sr=8-3

It should work but...

>I know it might take a couple days to charge the 12 Volt battery connected in the system

Your going to be getting about 0.7 amps once you do the conversion. That is more of a float charge rate. I think it is going to take more than days.

>transfer a movie or two a day to an ipad or phone.

Why not have an android tablet that can take a OTG USB cable and then you can already have the movies stored on a USB drive?

>What are your plans to charge small electronic devices, but something that doesn't use USB?

For the most part I don't. I've made sure that all the devices I need can charge off of USB. I do have a 12V DC inverter system for running my chest freezer and when that battery gets low I can charge it off of my car. If I needed to, I could plug a laptop into that system, but everything I can imagine I would really need I can do off of my phone and my tablet (or my Linux media server running on a raspberry pi which runs off of 5v USB).

Grab an OTG adapter from Amazon or something. Plug in a standard USB keyboard.

I have one I could send you for $0 plus shipping if you need it ASAP and cheaper than Amazon could get you that two-pack.

You can if you get something like this. Watch this for more info.

wifi shouldnt need to reset in order to pair. mine goes from paired with my home wifi to controller wifi and vice-versa pretty smoothly every time. best thing to do would probably be to get an OTG cable if you're worried about it

Some other things to check out:

Themes

Swiping keyboards like Gboard or Swype (Samsung might already have one built-in as standard)

OTG adapters that let you plug in USB devices like a mouse or keyboard

Widgets so your desktop can have actual content and not just icons (press and hold on desktop)

This is the one I've been using and it's been working great.

u/loki9674 · 1 pointr/retroflag_gpi

I use these two. It gives you 3 USB ports and an Ethernet port. Works great.

Note: After you plug in the hub, you will need to reboot for it to work. Also the GPI controller will not work till you unplug the hub and reboot, but you can just plug a keyboard into the hub.

I used this cable. I purchased the two pack. The cables are about 6 to 8 inches long - the photo showing the longer cables is incorrect.

I would hope you could simulate the swipe to unlock the phone, then disconnect the OTG cable and connect the USB cable to the PC running Kies.

Exactly the same thing happened to me... Bought this on Amazon...

Worked like a charm

If you have access to an Android device, the app I like the best is Katana Librarian: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appsforamps.katana

You also need a usb otg cable: UGREEN Micro USB to USB, Micro USB 2.0 OTG Cable 2 Pack On The Go Adapter Micro USB Male to USB Female for Samsung S7 S6 Edge S4 S3, LG G4, Dji Spark Mavic Remote Controller, Android Tablets (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N9S9Z0G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_1IkCCb4CY3Y8K

I can confirm this one works for me. I really like the interface, it has the sneaky amps and a couple of extra effects, including the Tera Echo, which sounds amazing... I never review anything and I had to give it 5 stars. As with anything tech related, your particular configuration might be trouble but I've had great success with that app.

If you don't mind a slight lag, you can save some money and use an app if you're on Android. I use one of 2 apps that display the live view on my phone and has remote control features.

DSLR Controller is a more basic app that does this. but I prefer qDSLRDashboard as it offers many more features -- just not free and I can't recall the price.

I got a hotshoe mount for my phone like this one, but not this one and a USB OTG adapter like this and connect the phone to my DSLR via USB.

Benefits are the phone (or tablet) then displays my camera's live view, the touch screen becomes the camera's touch screen for things like touch to focus, the apps can control the camera and use their own overlays (I like qDSLRDashboard's focus peaking feature).

Bonus: Both support live view over WiFi and you can install custom firmware on a TP-Link TL-MR3040 portable router, then plug the router into your camera and have wireless control via either app to your camera.

There's a slight delay between the camera and what's displayed on phone, more so over wifi. So if you need precision, this isn't your answer. But if you want something kinda fun and cheaper than a monitor, give this a shot.

You'll knock yourself over-the-head when you realize how much you need wifi (especially for transferring roms and general file management).

The Pi 0 (and 0W) only has 1 micro USB input (bottom row = Micro HDMI output, Micro USB input, Micro USB power). Whatever you plug into it (controller, USB hub) will need to have that terminal end.

An Xbox One controller (w. USB cable attached) should work without any issues. I haven't tried this personally, but from what I've read, it's hassle free.

For what it's worth, you can connect your Samson mic to an iPhone using this:

https://www.amazon.com/Lightning-to-USB-Camera-Adapter/dp/B014VGHG0U/

A USB OTG adaptor for Android phones would be even cheaper:

https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Adapter-Female-Samsung-Android/dp/B00N9S9Z0G/

It's up to you what setup you prefer. Maybe you want to stick with the webcam considering it's only $50:

  1. Yes, any audio that would have gone to the TV speakers will go through optical

  2. In my experience yes, but it depends on the TV. They tend to have a high noise floor

  3. I'm not sure about phone support for those 2 specifically but most USB DACs will connect to phones with an OTG Cable
