It does make logs. It just rolls the papers tightly, then you tie them with twine and soak in a bucket of water. Then you dry them. It's a fair bit of work, and it takes a LOT of newspapers. It is, however, free. They are similar to fireplace logs of sawdust that you buy. If you use them, then yes, it saves money.
One of these will help cope with the flood of junk mail.

Reminds me of a newspaper log roller, but it would have to have a handle for that and wood seems a poor choice of material. Are there holes on the side?
