Gray cables are data; one to my Switch's dock for a controller, "two" for my mini wireless keyboard, and one micro-USB and one USB-C going to my computer. The red ones are all for charging and connect to an Anker charger I have mounted under my desk. One for USB-C PD, two USB-C, and one micro-USB.

DO NOT get one from those guys selling them at kiosks or anywhere when they say it's "fully loaded", "programed". Years ago I bought one from them for 130$ ... it was an mbox, the mbox is 34$ on amazon ...

Get any android box on amazon, bestbuy any electronic store. The program these droid box tv sellers install is easy as hell to install and setup. It's as easy to install as any app on android or iphone. Setting it up and customizing it to your needs keeps you flexible when one source goes down or when you want to add another new one. And maybe you'd want one of these. Using the basic android box controller is usable but too time consuming.

Once you have a droid box and connected to the internet get the app KODI from google play.

KODI is an app meant to be a hub to access all your entertainment files on the droidbox, music, pictures, videos. Incidently people use it as hub to view movies and tv from independent websites. There are hundreds of independent website sources. Some movies, some tv, some live streams ... etc. In KODI it's reffered to as ADDONS.

Go to r/Addons4Kodi. There are many how to guides. Just follow them. Some may refer to it as XBMC. XBMC is the older version of KODI.

I would recommend these ADDONs. EXODUS, PHOENIX, SALTS for movies and tv and CCLOUD for live tv. There are literally thousands of international channels on CCLOUD. For spanish you'd have to google specifically for those addons.

Now you have the basics of it. But now you want to make it look presentable. You'd want to customize it youself. Stay away from BUILDS (this is what those sellers install, it's pretty much a copy and paste for them), BUILDS are like a customized theme with their chosen ADDONS.

Google a how to customize KODI. I use the mimic skin and just alter it through it's settings options. Once you have that setup how you like it, go to google play and get XBMC LAUNCHER app. This makes it so when you startup your android box it takes you directly to the KODI main menu.

Hope this give you an idea. It's pretty simple really.

Do you have this exact model? Only reason I ask is because Amazon reviews for it seem to show dodgy quality control.

Similar product seems to have no hardware complaints in reviews, but I'm not sure if that's just the Reviews lottery

u/migidymike · 5 pointsr/ShieldAndroidTV

The good news is, theres no shortage of after market remotes you can use with the shield. Here's a fairly cheap one I'm using which includes a keyboard and touchpad. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z81U3YY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_liieBbN0GEJEB

u/iserane · 5 pointsr/GameDeals

Yeah, it mirrors your computer's screen exactly. So anything you can do on your computer, you can do on the TV. Any inputs you make on the PC would carry over so you can use your own keyboard / mouse / controller, but it has 3 USB ports built in to connect any device you want to it, you do need something at least.

I mostly use the steam controller for everything, including typing through the on-screen keyboard. I also have a Logitech M570 for critical mouse stuff, and I'm planning to get something like this for better typing.

If nothing else, you can just consider it a wireless HDMI cable, for $20.

u/zer0guy · 5 pointsr/kodi

ill second his opinion, i have a 4k tv. and 1080p looks pretty good and is satisfactory.
Get yourself a "Rii mini remote keyboard with mouse" it works awesome with the RP3 and kodi

i just ordered a fire tv box, which claims it can do 4k. but i haven't received it yet. so im not sure how 4k capable it is. i will find out in a few weeks once i get it.

u/xartin · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Perhaps an HTPC via hdmi if you happen to have a home theater flatscreen tv.

I've been playing around with kodi recently and it's quite a nice setup with a great remote control

I just got done building a new Kodi box and I have to tell you its the only thing I've ever built that's normie approved. And by that I mean my wife, kids, and a hoard of cousins.

I used a RPi 3 + LibreELEC and hats off to the LibreELEC team because the thing reboots in 17 seconds and I haven't had a single skip or buffer problem on 1080p video.

I think one of these should be on every TV.

get ya one of these, I have android TV boxes on every room in the house and use these to control them [link] (http://amzn.com/B00Z81U3YY)

I recommend using the following keyboard for HTPC.
Rii i8+ 2.4GHz Mini Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad Mouse, LED Backlit, Rechargable Li-ion Battery-Black
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Z81U3YY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

  • Small and light enough to keep on a side table.
  • Controls both mouse/keyboard
  • USB RF has good range and doesn't require line of sight.

Note: I also have a IR universal remote for basic HTPC functions. If I need to leave WMC/Kodi then I usually switch to the keyboard/mouse.
u/0TheB · 2 pointsr/computers

Try something like this or this.

You could also look for keyboards that fold that are designed to be used with things like phones.

u/columboscoat · 2 pointsr/RetroPie

Rii mini i8+
It's a small form media keyboard which is plug and play (don't get the Bluetooth one, get the 2.4GHz wireless one).
The battery lasts for a very long time.

slightly less responsive but still good

u/Quaglar · 2 pointsr/financialindependence

It hits me in waves. Buildapc has a logical increments guide for how to scale things up from a reasonable price.

Pros to desktop: you can upgrade components

Cons to desktop: Power consumption for regular tasks is stupid relative to most efficient laptops. That said, in the winter, this added power consumption just turns into slightly more expensive heat generation.

One thing you could consider is a reasonable desktop now with a good cpu close to you television. If you run a hdmi to your TV, you can watch internet stuff from your couch and cancel cable. For added frugal luxury you can add a wireless computer remote.

u/mrtallyman2 · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

I've got 2 of the Rii Brand ones, I like the 2.4ghz one because it reads instantly, I've used it on laptops, desktops, Rapsberry Pi (Retropi) and even my steamlink! The battery lasts a few months with sparse use, and with heavy use probably about a month. Also the backlit keyboard is awesome, and i've never had any issues with the buttons. Just my two cents!

Edit: I've also used a bluetooth one with a Phone, Raspberry Pi, as well as a dongle attached to a laptop, It works well, but takes a little longer to setup and connect, where as the 2.4ghz one is plug and play.

an android box allows you to control your device and the volume by using your included remote or an upgraded palm sized keyboard. They start at about $35 http://amzn.to/1mvDFKe and they work just like your android phone so you can install any streaming app that you want.. thats available on your phone from the Play Store or other Android Store.

here is a nicer device with more ram / storage and android 5.1
http://amzn.to/1meGgI6

and here is a nice Rii Keyboard that is about as big as your open hand.. a little smaller.. charges off your USB port.. http://amzn.to/1mvEbrL make sure the keyboard of this type says Rii on the mouse trackpad there are many fakes.. this one is backlit which is good in dark rooms .. they have non backlit ones for $16

Also this remote .. acts like a mouse and also has a microphone so you can control your device with speech commands or make phone calls http://amzn.to/1mvEN0l

do your research .. don't blame me for stuff you buy >:o)

u/PM_ME_TITSorASS · 1 pointr/Addons4Kodi

That is a similar design but I got one just like that but have shoulder bumpers and the build quality was much lower the keys were plastic vs a nice rubber and it was shitty connection after 10 feet

This is the one you want https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00Z81U3YY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491103265&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Rii+i8%2B

Oh and it comes in different colors if you don't like black

u/9thWd · 1 pointr/AndroidTV

This is what I use, granted it's not a full size keyboard but it gets the job done.

My friend shares his plex server with me and I use a Rpi with RasPlex on it. It seems to work fine over the internet. Every once in a while it will hiccup and I have to power cycle the Rpi but it doesn't happen often. I also use one of these as a media controller--> http://www.amazon.com/Rii-i8-Wireless-Rechargable-Raspberry/dp/B00Z81U3YY/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1451005739&sr=1-1&keywords=Rii+i8%2B+2.4+GHz+Wireless+Keyboard+with+Touchpad+Mouse+-+Black. It doesn't have any mouse or touchpad support in RasPlex but it has basic navigation available.

EDIT: The Rpi model I have is the latest one, model 2 B and I use a Wi-Pi wireless adapter.

If it doesn't have to be bluetooth

If you do need bluetooth...well then get what you want you smurf eater.

I would also recommend getting one of these wireless keyboard controllers as it comes in handy for DOS BOX and Mouse cursor.

Then I downloaded an FTP server to the shield and I FTP the files over when I want to copy them over.

This helped for the Dolphin Emulator also

You could try getting an HTPC keyboard like [this one] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z81U3YY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_phUuxb7WRHKWW)

I use it and it works just fine. Very portable and cheap.

u/YourBobsUncle · 1 pointr/Piracy

With the Raspberry Pi you can install Kodi onto it which is a media player with a TV interface. You could also just install Raspbian, which is just like a normal desktop interface. I suggest getting a Rii which is a little handheld keyboard and trackpad.

Similar Keyboard from Amazon

Also if your have android you can use the Chrome Remote Desktop app and save a little money.

u/dimmmo · 1 pointr/htpc

I've got something similar from Alibaba/Aliexpress. Mine's got an extra row of dedicated function keys. Note they don't have a stop key, record key or windows media centre key. I remapped those onto the mail button, media player button and home button using autohotkey.

mine looks like this one:

If you don't mind spending a little money. I find the little keyboard remote controls to be super useful for this purpose.

I have something like this, although I have not used it for trying to play xcom from the coach.
