The ports on the MacBook Pro are Thunderbolt 3 / USB C. Thunderbolt 3 supports two DisplayPort channels per port. So, you can buy a cable like this: https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-Pixelbook/dp/B075V27G2R and daisy chain two 4K 60 Hz monitors off of it.

That's why Apple has gone full on with Thunderbolt/USB C.

u/Harambe82 · 5 pointsr/24hoursupport

You will only get 30hz on the hub. I use this adapter to get the full 60hz on my 4k monitor and works well and it’s compatible with your monitor.

u/RYJASM · 3 pointsr/MatebookXPro

Yep. Resolution is only dependent on the limitations of the output port or input port on the monitor, which always comes down to bandwidth. A list of resolutions is sent from the monitor to the computer. You can also create custom resolutions for non-standard resolutions, but those don't always work on all displays. So your laptop screen can be sized to it's 3000x2000 resolution and your external monitor can be sized to its 3840x1600 resolution. Most likely though, you will have to get a usb-c to display port cable to handle the high resolution of that monitor.

I bought this one. It matches nicely and drives my 3440x1440 monitor at 120hz: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/

This is what you need:

USB C to DisplayPort Cable (4K@60Hz), uni Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort Cable Compatible for MacBook Pro 2018/2017, MacBook Air/iPad Pro 2018, XPS 15, Surface Book 2 and More-Gray, 6FT/1.8m(Not HDMI

That is going to work 1080p at 144 hertz, try it and let me know what do you think!

The cheaper route is to go with a Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort adapter. Found this Thunderbolt 3 to display port cable on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza for $17. Not sure if it'll work with the Rift S. I did a search on Amazon for HDMI to DP adapters and the only adapter I found for HDMI 2.0 to DP 1.2 for 4K@60Hz was this one https://www.amazon.com/SIIG-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-60Hz/dp/B07C39QBSF, which costs $150. What graphics card does your G5 have? Mine has a Geforce GTX 1060 6 GB with Max-Q, the HDMI 2.0 port on it goes to the GTX 1060 and works with the Rift CV1. I'm not sure if the Thunderbolt 3 port on mine is connected to my GTX 1060 when used with a Thunderbolt 3 to Display Port adapter, which is the cheaper option.

Thanks johnny_jay_rambo!

The DisplayPort cable from Monitor (AW2518HF) to the TB3 port is something like this: ?

https://www.amazon.de/DisplayPort-Kompatibel-MacBook-Surface-weitere/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=pd_sim_147_1/258-9042757-2519351?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B075V27G2R&pd_rd_r=462e11a6-d199-4c93-bec1-a4bafedf6bd7&pd_rd_w=FzPyN&pd_rd_wg=DZwQ4&pf_rd_p=aa6868bc-7f33-4250-a93e-814f2dbbfd97&pf_rd_r=WMKYV7AQGKW5J14JSZHJ&psc=1&refRID=WMKYV7AQGKW5J14JSZHJ

I have also done the -150 mV undervolt. In CSGO I currently get 100-250 fps at 1440p, highest settings with the built-in GTX 1650. Interesting with the 1 frame of lag because of the way through the intel graphics port. Do you adjust your CSGO settings/frame rate for that as well? The goal for me is the smoothest experience in CS:GO, I don't really play any other games - that would also be the only job of the monitor.

u/DerJogge · 2 pointsr/macbookpro

Can't I just use a cable like this: USB-C to DP ? If it works at 4k@60Hz then it should at least do 100-120hz? I don't really need the full 144hz. My MacBook Pro just has 2x USB-C ports.

EDIT: Isn't USB-C like the same as Thunderbolt 3? Or am I retarded?

u/crapusername47 · 2 pointsr/applehelp

I have this cable which works. I have a 3440x1440 monitor running at 100hz too. Try to keep the cable length as short as you can because of DisplayPort’s general wonkiness in that department.

u/blinzeln · 2 pointsr/Monitors

The cheapest solution (if not doing dual 4k) - is to use a usb-c to displayport cable , to a monitor that supports MST. I'm doing this on a 920 with this cable (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to a 24" Dell monitor daisy chained to another. This leaves your other USB-C port for charging. Also, there are some docking stations that can split thunderbolt to DP and USBc (which you could use the converter cable with as well) but they get expensive and this would mainly be needed if doing dual 4k monitors or if you need the other ports. Stardock does have a unit without the other dock ports that is relatively inexpensive if your monitor doesn't support MST. (https://www.startech.com/AV/thunderbolt-3-video-adapters/thunderbolt-3-to-dual-displayport~TB32DP2T) With the added benefit that you could do dual 4k, while the one cable MST solution would not be able to. Note: In any case, be sure you apply the latest Lenovo USBC Firmware update that fixes USBC/monitor issues. (https://communities.intel.com/thread/120576?start=15&tstart=0).
You don't want to use both USBC ports, unless you don't mind running off battery! The cable matters dock mentioned above looked interesting (and inexpensive), might be a better choice then the stardock. If using 4k though, the specs say it only supports 1 4k @60hz, but will work for 2 monitors for your intended resolutions.

Late response I know...and I'm assuming you meant to type "using a USB-C to DP cable", but I got my G-sync monitor to work this way yesterday, full G-sync, 1080p @ 144Hz.

My GPU is an RTX 2080 and this particular monitor is a G-Sync Monitor (i.e. not the G-Sync compatible ones), but you should be good either way once you get the right cable. I do however have 3 Freesync (G-sync compatible) monitors connected on the 3 Displayports running in surround and G-sync and they work just fine too.

The cable I used is this one; the box says it does 4K @ 60Hz and the company rep said on amazon it can do 1440p @ 144Hz as well: UniAccessories USB-C to DisplayPort Cable

u/iamcambi · 1 pointr/Surface

That information is false.

Like I said, I figured it all out already (above your post)

I've talked to someone with the same model Surface Book 2 as me and they're able to achieve 144hz with a single monitor using a DisplayPort to USB-C cable.

Going off of that, I've based my setup as such:

  1. Monitor

    https://pixiogaming.com/products/new-px277

  2. Cable

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  3. Extra Ports

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PC07T02/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This setup will allow me to do 1440p @ 144Hz, Gigabit Ethernet, hookup for my Wireless Gaming Mouse and Mechanical Keyboard, and charging (through the surface port)
u/detox84 · 1 pointr/mac

I have the 560X and just tested this out last week with a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C connector) to Displayport cable and with some graphical tweaks the game runs anywhere between 135-144fps on my 144hz monitor (game capped at 144fps). Not sure how much faster the 560 is over the 555, however I hear they are very similar. This was also running the native Mac version, I assume the Windows version will see slightly better results.

If you're going to be at a desk with a monitor, as someone suggested, an eGPU would probably be a good idea.

EDIT: Here is the cable I'm using

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/mac

I bought this LG and it's great. You'll need a usb-c to displayport cable.

u/HopelessSap27 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Alright, so I've got this monitor (which IS actually G-Sync Compatible, even though it's not listed as such):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J4SXNQ5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My laptop comes with a Thunderbolt 3 port, and I've heard that a USB-C to DisplayPort cable can produce 144 hz. Therefore, I also picked this up:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Would I need anything else to get the 144hz on the monitor, or should this do it? (Also, my laptop card is an RTX 2060.)

u/swordlight14 · 1 pointr/applehelp

its not a hub, its a cable that goes directly from usb c to display port 1.2 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

I bought that one and it works beautifully ^ Nice cable too!

I'm pretty sure it carries both audio and video. Don't bother with an adapter if you can just do it in one cable! Hope this helps.

u/Exile714 · 1 pointr/macbookpro

I can’t speak to docks, but my USB-C to DisplayPort cable is from Uni (Amazon Link) and supports display to display pass through so you only need to plug one thing in for both monitors.

u/GBTR · 1 pointr/Monitors

Yeah it's something like this https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-Pixelbook/dp/B075V27G2R , not the exact one i have.

Not sure if that's where your issue comes from though, maybe try to play around macos and see if it's using your radeon or integrated gpu to actually render the desktop and/or output video to the external monitor and see if you can change some settings based on that.

u/ca1ibos · 1 pointr/oculus

Its this Laptop

GTX1060 with Thunderbolt/Type C

With a USB C/Thunderbolt 3 adapter like THIS with a Display Port, I assume I could plug that into a 4K compatible Display Port to HDMI convertor and from that a HDMI cable to the Sony Receiver (Which routes Video and Audio to the Projector.

My question would be, if this Displayport via USB-c/Thunderbolt is a discrete output the same as a DP output on a desktop GPU. ie. unconnected/converted to/from the laptops HDMI 2.0 port and output that'd be used by the Rift.

If this method is not possible, is there anyway to stream/cast audio and Video to the Sony Dolby Atmos Amp and Projector from the laptop? nVidia Shadow play, anything like that. This is the Atmos Receiver.

Since you are doing CPU intensive tasks, how about the Dell G5? It has:

  • i7-8750H 6-core processor

  • 16 GB of RAM

  • 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD storage

  • 1080p 15.6" display

  • GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB graphics card

  • Weight of 6.3lbs and battery life up to 6.5 hours

The laptop runs Windows 10 Home. The 6-core processor and GTX 1050 Ti wil be excellent for playing games and live streaming. This laptop can run 2 4K displays, it has an HDMI 2.0 and you can get a Thunderbolt 3 USB-C to DisplayPort or any kind of USB 3.1 Type A to a port that supports external output.

I was having a similar issue with using HDMI to USB-C and I bought a DP to USB-C and my MBP no longer detected my monitor as a TV. This one worked well for me:

How about the LG 34UC80-B and get this cable

u/Alphonso-Alonso · 1 pointr/MSILaptops

I am using this exact cable here. Made a huge difference in quality for me at least. It isn’t a big box retail cable but it’s highly rated. If there are any better then I’m open to suggestions.

https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-Pixelbook/dp/B075V27G2R

And would you advise people to keep their laptop lids opened? I shut mine and I’ve disabled the steelworks RGB but I’m starting to worry that the screen might not have been completely shut off and that perhaps I was overheating my laptop during my gaming and that’s why the FPS would stutter. I tied to activate adaptive resolution at one point to mitigate the strain and- no lie- the resolution would fluctuate between high quality potato rapidly.

Edit: also follow up question- would you suggest getting an external monitor that is close as possible to the quality of your Laptop monitor? I’ve heard that the GS75 was 4K ready on Thunderbolt so that’s why I got the 1440p monitor instead of a 1080p. That may be where I am screwing up too.

u/Maple08 · 1 pointr/macbook

Displayport basically is another cable similar to HDMI but it allows you to go over 60hz/60fps if your monitor can support it. I’m not too sure on it’s limits but you can get 144hz/144fps at 1080p with it.

A usb c to displayport should work for you.

Here is an example: USB C to DisplayPort Cable(4k@60Hz), uni Type C to DisplayPort Cable Compatible for iPad Pro 2018, MacBook, Surface Book 2/Go and More - Space Grey - 1.8m https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_yisuDbA2371Z5

Do you use the LG 4K at 30hz or 60hz? Also, what connection do you use for the HP 24"? The easiest and simplest way is a Displayport to Thunderport 3 cable and a DVI to Thunderport 3 cable. It will take up two USB-C ports. You can get an adapter that will use only one port but that will add $40+ depending on if you need 4K @60hz or not. I went for the Caldigit TS3+ adapter because it just uses one port from my MBP, charges the laptop and it manages all the ports I need.
