"Problem is, I only have about 100 bucks to spend and he wants over-ears."

Uhm... There is no such over-ear Beats product for that price. The 2013 studios and the Solo2 are both well made, have metal construction throughout the headband, and sound just as good, if not better, than alternative bass-heavy headphones. I would say the V-Moda M-100 is better sounding, but not the LP or the LP2.

The real reason why you don't want to buy the Beats is because you don't want to pay for them.

The beats Studios 2013 cost $199 on Amazon.

The V-Moda M-100, that I said was better than Beats, $60 more.

The V-Moda LP2, which is worse than Beats Studios, cost $60 less than the 2013 Studios.

I don't think the Beats Studios are overpriced anymore. They improved the sound quality. The fit and comfort of the Studios is amazing. The only downside to the Studios is that they leak sound. If Beats can fix that, then they will have some very competitive headphones for the price.

Get a V-Moda boompro and find a pair of headphones that have a 3.5mm jack and uses detachable cabled. Replace the cable with the boom pro and bam, instant headset.

Some potential headphones:

Phillips SPH9500 - do shop around sometimes you find these cheaper on other sites.

Monoprice Headphones - if you want a cheap entry level before you decide if you want to go further

V-moda crossfades

Skull Candy Aviators

Beyerdynamics Custom One Plus

Okay, you're not getting much good here. You're not going to get less bass or any kind of deficiency in sound, first of all. Good headphones don't not have bass or not have good bass, it's just different from the artificial stuff you'll hear on typical gaming headsets or beats. And the advantage with buying real, good, headphones, is that they can be used for anything. Music, movies, gaming, etc, they'll be better at all of it than anything you have right now.

You definitely want something open for fps gaming, but if it'll be a problem for sound leaking in or out, you don't necessarily need those. They'd be better, but they're not absolutely necessary.

I use HD598s. They're perfect for gaming, with a wide soundstage you won't find out of many headphones at all in this price range. Anything more expensive than this, and you're getting into diminishing returns for gaming imho.

If these are too expensive, they have a little brother called the HD 558s. These are nearly identical in sound according to most people, as they use the same drivers and thus the difference in sound is from materials, and a simple mod that removes the foam in the cups supposedly makes them nearly indistinguishable.

Now, for something closed, I would maybe suggest something along the lines of V-moda Crossfadess or the very famous ATH-M50x.

I'm not a huge fan of ATH-M50s, they're pretty overrated nowadays, but lots of people use them for gaming, and since you're starting off, they're likely better than anything you have right now.

If you need a mic, may I recommend a Modmic. They attach to your headphones, they're pretty good value. If they're too expensive along with a pair of headphones, you'd really be fine with any old cheap mic. Even a $10 one would probably be comparable to some expensive "gaming headsets", believe it or not.

Since this has already gotten really long, PM me for any IEM recs. And check out /r/headphones for much more information, probably better than anything I have here.

Good luck!

DONT GET GAMING HEADPHONES!!!!

They are over priced crap

There are a lot to choose from like

Personally, I would go with this headset.. Costs $125 for headset, plus mic totals you at $150. Although not necessary, I would definitely upgrade to the XL ear cushions. Worth the extra $20. So with a total of $175, it'll be a investment you won't regret. Trust me.

I know it's not a gaming headset, but my god it might as well be one. I used a pair of these for about two weeks (before upgrading to the m-100's for an extra $100) and while playing Planetside 2, it sounds absolutely amazing. The level of immersion while using these was truly something else compared to the $75 turtle beach set I had before. The 3D soundstage and crystal clear sounds set these things apart from my old turtle beach headset. You can easily pick out enemies footsteps, cloaking sounds and gunfire very easily. Also they sound great on other games too.

Best part is, you can use this headset for more than gaming. Listening to music on them is awesome, so much better that a pair of beats or skull candys. Just read the Amazon reviews for that bit of info.

And if you're still hesitant to buy a pair, ask somebody that owns a pair of them I only owned them for two weeks, so there's that. If you want more info, just send me a message. I can't recommend them enough. Buy them!

V-MODA Crossfade Wired Headphones. My pair are no longer offered on Amazon but linked the limited edition headphones which still are; otherwise here are their newer wireless versions.

u/livemau5 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Currently using some iPhone 5 headphones I found lying around while I wait for my V-MODA Crossfade LP^2 to arrive. It's torture because the iPhone headphone cable is just barely too short, so I always have to lean forward in the couch to game or do anything that requires sound. I hope these V-MODAs work out because I don't want to have to send them back and deal with another week of Apple hell. If they don't have as much bass as the Krackens I'll be pissed.

u/auralucario2 · 2 pointsr/headphones

Crossfade LP2 would be a great choice.

u/Dimarziomesafan · 2 pointsr/headphones

If you like bass then the M100 is a fantastic set, great portability but relatively uncomfortable after 1hr+ imo.

$200 would be what I'd pay for the M100's personally. Used probably $160+

You may want to consider the Crossfade Lp2's instead as the pricepoint is much lower and its a comparable set of cans however everyone generally agrees the m100 is alot better. http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Crossfade-Over-Ear-Noise-Isolating-Headphone/dp/B00HYH7HXA/ref=pd_sim_23_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=41X%2BKCjg0cL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR107%2C160_&refRID=0H21N701F1KSA5EBQ5MM

Personally I'd buy the lp2 long before I'd spend the same money on the M50

EDIT: more comfy pads

I know it may not be an apples to apples comparison but they are going for the same price right now on Amazon and I want to get good headphones. Let me know your thoughts

u/MerryMacattack · 1 pointr/GlobalOffensive

I don't even understand the point of getting headsets meant for gaming. They are so huge. I use these combined with this mic and it works perfectly. I will never go back to headsets meant for gaming. The quality on these is amazing, and it is very very good for every thing else you might need headphones for.

u/thejokersshadow · 1 pointr/headphones

/u/auralucario2 suggested the v-moda Crossfade LP2's which seem like they are the next model down from the M100's. Do you know if there is a significant jump from the LP2's to the M100's?

u/DiggleLife · 1 pointr/headphones

I have no idea about tonal balance :/

Also friend recommended the Crossfade lp2 for the isolation. How do you think it compares to the m40x/50x?

There is a wired version, that looks less gamery.

V-Moda $150

u/Kapsize · 1 pointr/EDM

V-MODA LP2's are my favorites for EDM because they've got really profound bass without muddying the entire sound spectrum within a track. They run for $150 on amazon or at a local guitar center... I'd also recommend the $20 XL Ear-Pads for them, they add so much comfort!! You can also purchase customizable ear-shields which add a more personal flavor to your headphones if that floats your boat :)

u/lazyzbeetle · 1 pointr/EDM

I own both the Audiotechnica ATH m50s as well as the V-Moda Crossfade LP2 headphones and I've found that the Crossfades actually have a more suitable bass for listening to genres like EDM, Rap/RnB, and Trap. The ATH m50s are a GREAT pair of headphones for balanced listening, but I much prefer the bassy punch of the Crossfades for bass heavy music. Amazon is actually having a sale right now for them! Right here 140bucks!

Edit: I'm actually hella mad cause I bought these like a week ago when they were 180... curse my greed hahaha

 • Budget: $150-$200 (USD)

 • Source: PC and smartphone (Samsung GS4 Active)

 • Requirements for Isolation: Home use, not much required. No sound leakage would be a large plus.

 • Preferred Type of Headphone: Full-sized, over-ear. Would prefer more breathable earcup material, as I would use them for long periods.

 • Preferred Tonal Balance: Prominent bass, fun sound, crisp with a warmer signature.

 • Past Headphones: Have only owned Numark Red Wave.

 • Preferred music: This is the hard bit. I listen to mainly techno and alternative, but I listen to just about everything.

 • Side Notes: I was looking at a good few headphones, but a few that stuck with me were the Creative Aurvana Live! 2s, the beyerdynamic 770s, the AKG Q701s, and the V Moda LP2s. I was heavily looking into the V Modas because of all the punishment they can take, because I take my headphones basically everywhere, and despite my best efforts, I mess things up pretty easily.

Maybe check out V moda too. But I reckon a larger sound stage is what you're after for gaming, so I'd look for an open can. Remember the head fi guide as well.

I use a set of Vmoda Crossfade headphones mostly now. They don't have an integrated microphone, so I grabbed their boom mic that plugs into the headphone cable in.

I was more worried about the sound quality for music listening and mixing than my voice quality from the microphone, but the mic sounds fine for gaming. If your a streamer or do youtube, your better off with a standalone microphone like the Blue Snowball as /u/motionglitch mentioned.

The headphones themselves are comfortable and fairly balanced frequency wise. I managed to find a store with them in stock and got a listen, and out of the options available they were the best choice.

As for the MIC, I had some issues getting it to stay put firmly, but otherwise its been fine. There are other similar Mic on cable setups, and corsair even makes a cheap 15 USD lavaliere mic that works.

Currently trying to decide between these two unless anyone has any experience/suggestions:

Hey guys,

I have narrowed my possible headphone choices down to 5 kinds, but I'm kind of having trouble deciding which one to pick:

V-Moda XS: http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-On-Ear-Folding-Noise-Isolating-Headphone/dp/B00GO4GMAI

V-Moda Crossfade LP2 with XL Ear pads bought separately: http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Crossfade-Over-Ear-Noise-Isolating-Headphone/dp/B00HYH7HXA/ref=pd_tcs_subst_e_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=1C43YNNYY8MYCJEEA8DG

Audio-Technica ATH-M50x with FiiO E6 : http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-Professional-Headphones-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B00JZRXWRW/ref=pd_cp_MI_1

Jaybird BlueBuds X: http://www.amazon.com/JayBird-BlueBuds-Sport-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B00B6ZGSVI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-2&keywords=jaybird+bluebuds+x

and last but certainly not least: The Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro:
http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-Custom-One-Pro-Black/dp/B008XEYT48/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1409518695&sr=1-1&keywords=Beyerdynamic+custom+one+pro

I listen to a lot of EDM and rock, and occasionally some pop. I want headphones that would be able to block out some sound because I will be listening to these on the bus to school, so I want to basically drown out all the screaming freshmen girls :P I also want these to last a while, and they should be able to tolerate some sweat, because i sweat excessively even when I'm not working out. I am coming from the Bose QuietComfort 2 Headphones, and I want the sound to be an upgrade over that. Based on this information, which one out of these 5 would you recommend?

u/Thestigsfatcousin · 1 pointr/videos

I really hope you see this. If you haven't already, at least check out V-Moda. I've bought four pairs of headphones from four companies, beats, Bose, V-Moda, and Audio Technica. I loved my beats, but they are overpriced, my Bose headphones are still the most comfortable pair I've ever owned, and I'm sorry but they sound good. I bought a pair of the audio-Technica headphones and I found the quality of the actual headphones surprisingly weak. Maybe they're really good quality, but they feel cheap to me, and they are by far the least comfortable of my four pairs. Plus, they're HUGE. I'm 6'3" and the ear cups went totally around my ears to such a degree that it actually bothered me.

My V-Moda's are my daily driver. They're solid as hell, because they're made of metal and good plastic and the detachable cord is Kevlar. Trust me, the detachable cable is a huge feature and the AT ath-m50's don't have it. I think they sound great, and I have no problem using them for long periods of time.

That said, for comfort, I haven't found anything better than Bose. Are they overpriced? Maybe. But damn are they light. In addition, they actually looks pretty good. They're not what I'd call subtle, but they don't draw attention either.

My Bose headphones (They've since come out with a newer version which I've also tested and liked). : http://www.amazon.com/Bose-Audio-Headphones-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B005586PT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409456930&sr=8-1&keywords=bose+ae2

If you'd be ok with on-ear design, the V-Moda M80 is $119 and the V-Moda XS is $136 on Amazon. There's also the V-Moda LP2 for $143 that's over-ear. Very solid build quality, excellent accessories, the sound signature is fun and bassy. The cable is removable, can be replaced with any other 3.5mm cable, V-Moda also makes some interesting alternatives, like a cable with volume buttons (the included one only has mic and pause), and a cable with a boom mic (for gaming).

u/djdementia · 1 pointr/Beatmatch

Actually I think that is the 'newer model' of the one I linked. Amazon has that one too for a little less money:

Sounds like a perfect oppertunity to go the headphone+mic route as opposed to the gaming headset route. But if you want, a good compromise would be a Vmoda Crossfade LP2 with the Vmoda boom mic pro. Total cost is under $200.

Link to headphones: Vmoda Crossfade LP2

Mic: Vmoda Boom Mic

you'll get great sound, and you won't have to replace the entire thing in case one component fails.

> this just means I need to turn up the resolution

yep. just set the resolution the the graphics options of whatever game

Hz = the highest fps your display can effectively display. you can run content at a higher or lower frame rate than the monitors Hz but without something like Gsync or Freesync you can see stutters or tears. you can lock your frame rate with vsync but that creates lag(unless you use Gsync too).

if your budget allows for the Gsync I would highly recommend it. IMHO its almost required to make the most out of your hardware
Of these id say Acer(Gsync)>>>>BenQ>Asus

your monitor is an older TN panel. Looks like a decent display, i would for sure hold on to that for a second monitor or something. Looks like you could easily overclock that monitor to 75Hz which is a noticeable difference.

The M50x are great. i personally like V-Moda I have These and These and the LPs are killer

Most games are not cpu bound, especially offline. games like cities skylines will use a lot of cpu because there are a lot of things going on. also online games can use a lot of cpu if there are lots of players online

Its only important if you plan on doing things like overclocking, SLI or Crossfire, etc. I spent a lot of money on my motherboard because it had features i wanted that others didn't. at the time it was the only board that had all the overclocking features and a M.2 slot that was tied to PCIE lanes instead of sata.

Build looks almost perfect. ram sales change every day so unless you are in love with the heat spreaders i would just grab the cheapest 16GB kit of DDR4 2133 or 2400 CAS 15. 2133 or 2400 wont make any difference so just grab whatever is cheapest

Budget - 200$ is a huge stretch, but I can go there if it's worth it.

Source - Mostly PC, maybe iPhone/Lumia 1520.

Requirements for Isolation - I'm not crazy about noise cancellation.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Over-Ear. Also, I prefer a detachable cable. I will also be needing to add a mic to the setup (that's why I prefer a detachable cable -- I can add the VModa BoomPro instead of investing double the price in an AntLion ModMic).

Preferred tonal balance - I guess balanced is good?

Past headphones - Steelseries 7H, Logitech G930s (getting a refund on the G930s and looking at new headphones to buy).

Preferred Music - Mostly Hard Rock, some Metal, and Drum & Bass/Electronic. Examples: 1, 2, 3.

I have done some research about this and these are the options I liked:

 • Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO, 250 OHMs, I will have the option to try these out at my uncles studio this Tuesday. I heard nothing but good about these -- amazing and balanced sound, good soundstage/imaging, and that they feel like clouds. My only problem is the non-detachable 10ft cable.

 • V-MODA Crossfade LP2, these have great reviews and a detachable cable but I'm not sold on the whole noise cancellation thing. They also come with a case thing and a mic cable which is great for me. They also look bad ass. Is there an option to get velvet/cloth ear pads?

 • AKG Q 701, they got good reviews and a detachable cable but are more expensive. They also look like they are comfortable.

I've had these, so far I have no complaints. I would recommend the XL pads for the ears, deeper ear pockets.
