Hey, so I looked into it a bit more to try to remember how I had everything set up when I was using my monitor. All the digital video converters I am seeing online are more expensive than I remember them being.

Anyway, this is the one that I got. Of course vga only puts out the video, so you need something else to get your sound going. For the sound part, I used something like this. One side accepts the SNES red/white cables and the other I plugged my computer speakers into whenever I played my SNES.


You may be able to find video converters cheaper than the one I linked but I didn't look very much this time around to see. Let me know if you have any luck.

When you say "run my TV onto it," what do you mean? What media is the feed? Coax cable? RCA composite or component video? HDMI? Etc.

If you have a coax or composite video feed, you will need a digital converter like this one.

If the feed is HDMI, you may need a converter like this one instead.

First off, that's vga-to-component. You don't even have component.

Second, that cable goes the wrong direction. It's for going from VGA to component.

You need an active device to convert a signal to VGA.

That will convert the yellow composite video to VGA.

Then you will still have to connect the red and white stereo sound somewhere to hear it.

You could then connect the red/white RCA to your computer speakers.

That's what I could find. How recent is your TV? I recently purchased an LG TV (not a "new for 2013" mind you) that still had the required inputs. Otherwise, most people would like to get rid of their aging televisions, so you could probably find a tube TV for cheap. Best of luck, in any case!

How old is your PC? Up until last year, when I built myself a new system, I was able to run most PS1 games on an Athlon XP 2500. That system was from 2003, and the video card was just as old.

If you want to be able to connect your PS1 to your monitor, you're going to need something that's capable of converting the RCA output of the PS1 to a VGA connection.

You're taking a chance on the video quality here, since there's no way for the box to control the output frequency of the analog signal going into the monitor. Also, I'm not sure how the resolution is set for the device. It seems like there have been some positive reviews on Amazon, but I can't speak to the quality myself.

Like this? Could definitely work, it's a little cheaper but you'd still need to hook up the audio cables separate, guess that's no big deal.

Also a lot of TV tuner boxes that output VGA will also take video inputs. That's the type I use.
