I did hardwire it. If you get the Viofo kit that's made for their cams, it has the voltage cut off so if your voltage drops below a certain point it stops recording. Super useful

Mine came with a cigarette to USB adapter, and I had a local shop run the wires for me. But it does not come with a permanent install kit. When I bought mine, one wasn't available, but there's one now. I just plug mine in every time I start the car.

Check if your dash cam has a hardwire kit that you can configure for low voltage shutoff.

Yeah definitely. Not sure if the hardwire kits are all manufacturer specific but if you get the A129 Pro Duo, Viofo makes a hardwire kit with battery discharge protection. Then this will keep powering your dashcam until your car battery level reaches a certain level and then it turns off so that your car battery doesn't die.

This allows it to do exactly what you want. It will save the video if your car is hit or somethign happens, but it won't let your car battery die

I see it has some sort of variable voltage thingamadoodle. How do i know what to set it to - what my car needs? It’s a 2018 civic ex if that matters

You should get a pair of A119 V3 with the GPS mount. My brother got one and the GPS mount is what you stick on the windshield and then you slide the camera on and off. Also, the power plugs into the GPS mount so you don't need to unplug it or plug it in...literally just slide it in.


Addtionally, it comes with the regular mounts which just are a piece of plastic that you stick on the windshield so you could use that on your third car. When you use that mount, the power cable plugs into the camera directly so you will have to do that extra little step. All you need is a third power cable or the hardwire kit they make for it. Or maybe even an extra usb cable to the cigarette lighter could work but I am not sure about that.

What dashcam do you have? Cause here is one for the A119 V3, which enables parking mode. And yes, that's how the camera knows to enable parking mode.

We typically don't recommend suction coup mounts as they're prone to vibration and fall off very easily when there's an impact (causing you to lose out on potentially very important footage).

The hardwire kit is a must if you want parking mode enabled and/or a cleaner installation (wires are more easily hidden than just using the 12V socket of the vehicle).
