My reasoning to go with the vertical mount was because I had the 22" from before and didn't want it to go to waste. Mount cost about $40 from Amazon, made by Vivo. Edit: many have asked about the mount, it's this one here. There's a shelf just a few inches below the top of the desk where I rest the stand.

Computer cost was around $900 for the case and parts, got some really great deals, some of which were bought on Craigslist, at Micro Center, and of course stalking r/buildapcsales. It's also a Hackintosh dual boot build, running 10.12.5 Sierra.

This is my desk. I'm not really done with it yet, but since this was illicitly posted here and deleted I might as well make an "official" post.

Desk: Bestar Connexion U-Shaped Workstation
Monitors: ASUS VN279Q 27-Inch x 6
Mounts: Vivo Dual LCD Monitor Desk Stand
Video Card: VisionTek Products 7750 Eye 6 (with a more powerful card driving the center display)
Chair: A ball. Deal with it.

There's a tower under the desk driving all this, but it's a few years old. A Core i7 2600k with a 16GB of RAM and 4 90GB SSDs in a raid 0. The center monitor is hooked up to a GTX 570, which is probably next up to be upgraded.

Like I said, I still have a lot of work to do (especially for cable managment) but I'm really happy with how my power solution is coming along. Plugging in this many monitors along with all the other stuff on my desk is always a mess, but CyberPower makes a 10 outlet rackmount power strip, which is a really nice solution. Those are the bottom two things in the rack. The whole rack will be mounted to the underside of the desk soon, and I'll get a net or something to keep the wires off the floor and go crazy with zip ties.

I'm not totally happy with the stands, which are pretty bulky, but I couldn't find a lot of options for six 27-inch monitors. Ideally it would be some kind of single foot "tree" style stand, but all the 6 monitor ones I could find didn't support 27 inchers.

This thing is mostly used for work. I write for Ars Technica.

The easiest and best solution is to get a vertical dual monitor stand.

Bottom monitor

Top monitor

Side monitor is a 24" HP I bought from WalMart.

Stand for the ultrawides is a this one and this one for the side monitor.

I ordered a new desk from Ikea early April but I only got it a week or so ago. It feels like ages but I'm just happy it's all here and it worked like I expected.

Other things:

  • Elgato Stream Deck
  • The Anchor under-desk headphone mount
  • Deathadder Chroma mouse
  • Blackwidow Chroma keyboard
  • Rode microphone stand
  • Blue Yeti Blackout microphone
  • Microsoft LifeCam Studio on the 34" - top right

My desktop is a prebuilt Dell with an i7-4790, but I added an SSD, swapped out the 1TB HDD for a 2TB when it crapped out, and added a GTX 1060.

Sure the bottom monitor is a Dell U3415W Curved, the top is a LG 29UM55 29" and the stand is this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DGU92DM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

In addition if you just want to mount one of them you can use something like this, although that one is probably taller than it needs to be. And here's another option for a free-standing 2 screen mount.

u/Python4fun · 3 pointsr/Battletops

I've got this one for a pair of 22's stacked beside by 27

u/reclaimer130 · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

I'm 99% sure he's using the same dual monitor desk stand I'm using:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DGU92DM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've got a AW3418DW and 27" Predator mounted on it and it works perfect, since I didn't want to wall mount and my desk makes it difficult to put a clamp mount on.

u/G00zfraba · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

I had two ultrawides stacked on top of each other using this mount:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DGU92DM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I wanted something that doesn't need to be mounted to my desk and has a stand that can hold multiple monitors.

Here is how my desk looked

u/BrutalAttis · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

I use this on a small glass to desk, without any issues. By Asus 3440x1440 34" at the bottom and a 27 ben q at the top:

I have that exact setup on this arm. Works perfectly. I'm not the biggest fan of the vertical arrangement of the monitors but it might work for some people.

u/ImaEvilDoctor · 2 pointsr/battlestations

I used an older version of the VIVO dual vertical monitor stand. The new one seems to be rated for even bigger monitors with the new base design.

u/stillUnproductive · 2 pointsr/battlestations

I find stacking works with better with an ultra wide setup. I have a 34um95 and found anything to the left or right was too far outside my peripheral vision to use for watching movies and playing games at the same time. I stacked a cheap 27inch 16:9 tilted down on top of the 34 inch using this mount: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00DGU92DM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00

It has gone up in a price a little since I bought it but there is also a cheaper version that lets you mount the stand directly to the desk with out drilling holes in it here: http://www.amazon.ca/Monitor-Stacked-Vertical-Screens-VIVO/dp/B00DGTP57A/ref=pd_cp_ce_1

I haven't posted it yet because the room is being renovated but here is a phone pic from when I first set it up: http://i.imgur.com/uocoR8h.jpg

It works great for me. I hope this helps.

It's a bit hard to work with initially but as long as you don't overtighten the screws, it should work well.

I use the Vivo Stand-V002L. It's $43 on Amazon and it works great. I did drill through my desk to add the anchor support just in case. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DGU92DM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_0wEvzbS3FDXCH

But I actually just used the pole from that, I used the arms from the Amazon basic single mount for them since those hold them the best in my opinion.

u/ManaPot · 2 pointsr/pcmasterracents

Special monitor stand, such as this.

u/MaxMhad · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Its a VIVO dual monitor arm, I got it on sale and its pretty sketchy to setup (at least with mine, the screw in pole didn't go all the way in) but it gets the job done. Iv linked it on Amazon.

u/Beamur-14 · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

I have the VIVO STAND-V002H which works well but the base was a little bit warped. If you can afford it, I would say to go with the VIVO STAND-V002L As it has soft foam on the bottom (according to a reviewer) that won't scratch your desk.

u/Xeekatar · 2 pointsr/VirginiaTech

I had a desktop and two monitors for both years I was in a dorm, if you use this stand or something similar, you can have plenty of room

u/wrk_account · 1 pointr/buildapc

i started with an ultrawide 34" monitor. my current desk isn't very big so i had to go with getting a dual monitor mount ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DGU92DM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) My secondary monitor is a 27" and it fits nicely below

I used this stand (hopefully it's linked right, if not it's a Vivo dual monitor desk stand free standing) and it works well. I couldn't clamp because my desk is glass so it's just sitting on my desk, easy to work with

u/boombeef · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Also used Vivo dual but vertical as you mentioned. This! one and it holds my older 34 up top with my new one bottom but still around 9" off my desk. Vivo's are sturdy.

u/radioactivetreefrog · 1 pointr/audiophile

Btw the mount I have is a freestanding double mount, you can see the base in the back. This is it if you were curious.

u/Rjd210 · 1 pointr/battlestations
u/fryedegg · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Just a stand like this from amazon. And then this one for the side monitor I only needed that for the side one b/c I lost the original monitor stand.

It used to look like this on a tripple horizontal stand. It was fine for a few years but we started to do more couch coop and the right monitor would slightly block the tv if you were gaming on the left side of couch, unacceptable!

Actually really digging the double stack. The top/side setup > trip horizontal imo.

u/0The_Anonymous_D0 · 1 pointr/battlestations

Using some pole mounts I found on Amazon they arent actually ment for 32" monitors. Thats why you can see the monitors are rested on eachother then on small speakers. They are stable but Im in the process of building a brace that does on the back of the desk that the poles screw to then rebuilding the actual mounts that out of milled aluminum and using various parts like the verticle poles and vesa plates in my new setup. This will also tuck the setup closer to the wall, clearing up more desk space.

u/DaedricGaming · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

I personally just upgraded to this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072J1CSCD/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 In love with them. My old one i used was: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DGU92DM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Which was a really nice one to have. But currently future proofing for when i buy my UW.

u/Konwizzle · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Not an arm (just a post), but I found this recommended here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DGU92DM?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image

u/Salsa_Czar · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

So to indirectly confirm, if I'm mounting it to my arm, specifically this one, I should be good? Mind if I ask what arm you're using?

u/vir_papyrus · 1 pointr/buildapc

Does it have to be on the same stand? Could just spend the money on a nicer arm and simply position it over the larger display, and use the regular stand for the ultrawide.

I did find a doublesight, but it looks cheap as shit:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824185063

Are you against a wall? You'd probably have much better luck with wall mounted arms for cheaper. I don't think you'll have any luck with cheap vertical stands that large.

I'm kinda curious why you want them vertical. Even with two stacked 24" panels its honestly kinda weird to work off. I'd think it be extremely annoying above a 30", you'll be moving your neck back to look up.

Edit: Yeah nvm, I didn't think ultrawide and height. I'm used to 27" panel height. You'll probably be fine with any 23-24" dual monitor stand.

http://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Standing-Optional-bolt-through-Vertical/dp/B00DGU92DM

Something like that has nice wide feet. I mean you can always just rig it into your desk somehow. Drill a small hole and bolt it down.

u/BenedictCumonherback · 1 pointr/battlestations

I'm using this one.

u/ragingkittai · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

I actually just changed my setup today, and I think I have exactly the pictures you need.

http://imgur.com/a/3KImg

Top is old, with a 1440p 27" monitor top. it was nice but a bit of a strain on my neck to look up and down that far (I have a sit/stand desk and i had to look down too far at my UW when sitting, and up too far at my 1440p when standing). I replaced it with the tiny 25" 2560x1080 UW and i like it a lot so far. It's easier to look up and down, and the side by side window split on the little one is a really good size. Plus I got it for $120.

Another from same company that might work and is $20 cheaper

Long stand.

u/TheSideJoe · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm going to be acquiring a third monitor and I want to put it above one of my monitors due to space constraints. Should I go with a 2 vertical monitor vesa stand that can only adjust the Y axis and tilt, but it's a moveable stand, or a single tall vesa stand that is mounted to the edge of a desk that provides XYZ and tilt movement?

Nice monitor you got there! I actually just got the Alienware AW3418DW.

Only thing to be aware of with stacking monitors on something with a clamp is that your desk won't crumble under the weight/pressure of the clamp. (Like the "particleboard" Ikea stuff)

You have the option of spreading the load on a clamp with wider shims...or getting a freestanding mount.

I have this freestanding mount:
https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Free-standing-Vertical-Position-STAND-V002L/dp/B00DGU92DM/

It's great, if bulky.

I actually have a big-ass LG 34um57 (34" 21:9) mounted on top...and it even supports that just fine. Been up there for almost 2 years now - not a single issue.

Greetings from the US! :)

u/bjdripley · 1 pointr/battlestations

That's my side. This is the stand, and it's a fucking tank. I'd recommend buying an alan wrench tool kit though because the one it comes with is very hard to use.

u/Cguercio · 1 pointr/battlestations

I know a lot of people don't like stacked monitors but that is an idea for you. I have stacked 27" ultra wides and I will probably never go back to side by side. Saves so much space. This is the stand I have and it's great.

Hi OP I have a few questions (maybe more than a few...)

So I'm looking to upgrade in the monitor game. I was actually eyeing the same exact monitor that you have (Acer 3440x1400 UQWHD) but wasn't able to make a decision. How is the monitor? Would you recommend it? The refresh rate is what makes me hesitant. I wanted to bump up to 144Hz but I understand this monitor is capped at 60Hz.

Secondly, I was looking (same as you) to mount the monitor I have right now above the new monitor I get (whichever it ends up being). How does it feel? Is it comfortable to look at as opposed to the normal side by side setup?

Finally, what exactly did you use to mount your monitors? I was eyeing this guy. Any tips?

Thanks in advance!

(btw I'd love to see you do a full blown build if this is only a budget station)

u/wish_i_lived_in_cali · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

I have the AW3418DW and a IKEA Karlby desk as well. I used to have this monitor mount for my 24 inch monitor and 29 inch uw, but I will be upgrading to this monitor arm for the 34 inch uw and use the VIVO vertical mount for either my 24 or 29 inch monitor.

The VIVO vertical mount should be able to handle the weight of the Alienware and another monitor, but I don't want to risk going over the mount's weight limit.
