I've been cutting my hair for 8 years now, this is what I've been using, same quality machines you'll find at a barber shop and they last for years.
I tried those $20 Wahl's before, they broke on me. I bought a couple of them before I decided to get a decent one. I find that in clippers you usually get what you pay for.

They still make what looks like an updated model of what I have. With 139 reviews and 4.5 stars on amazon it might be a good bet, but I can't vouch for it personally.

I've been using a pair of Wahl Senior Adjustable Blade clippers for quite a while... similar to these:

They are used by professional barbers and have a lever on the left side that allows you to adjust the cut from a zero no-guard to a 1 or anything in between. Just make sure to keep the blades cleaned with a brush and oiled before each cut.
The powerful motor and the adjustability of the blades are the main advantages
