This isn't much cheaper than a GMT Master II, but boy is it pretty. Seiko also make a few kinetic GMT watches, like the SUN025 and the SUN019, which I've heard good things about. You can check out watch videos on youtube for a quick look.
I want to recommend the $40 Casio MDV106. I have one as my knock-around watch. My only reservation is the crystal. It's cheap something, and has scratched up fairly easily. And with your lifestyle that may be a deal breaker. It's fine for a $40 watch, but could possibly be too scratched up for you. A cool Seiko, that's probably top of budget if SKX007 is the baseline, is the SBDN023. It's the new solar Tuna. There are a few color ways, but I'm linking the one that matches the SKX007 color which also seems to be the cheapest. Very cool watch.
