really early. There are people there at like 8am camping out at the tables and grills. A single person will show up early and take the grill and tables around it for group that wont arrive until 12.

The easier thing to do is buy a cheap portable grill and just grill out on the grass. I have this one just for doing BBQs at Crissy field and you will see other people with similar grills doing the same thing https://www.amazon.com/Weber-121020-Go-Anywhere-Charcoal-Grill/dp/B00004RALJ/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=portable+grill&qid=1562293888&s=gateway&sr=8-10

My gut says the construction is not as good as it looks and the extra stuff like wood handles etc are just for show. I personally would just spend over 60% less and get the weber camping grill. Tried, True and smartly designed and made to travel.

there is a propane version too.

Barbecue regulations

So it sounds like you can run a propane BBQ (e.g. I've had good luck with this one) on any open grassy space.

Not sure what that's got to do with the other stuff. But I have always wondered why I don't see more random grilling going on.

While the Smokey Joe is awesome and is my main brat and burger grill, the Weber Go-Anywhere is much better for traveling. If I didn't already have the Joe, I would get one.

My parents have had theirs for about 30 years and still use it as their main grill. Growing up, it was used at least once a week because it was quicker and easier than firing up the Weber kettle.

I started with this, plenty big enough to grill for my family of four.

I got this one to grill for up to 8 people.

This is my camping/tailgating grill

This is a nice one I really like, but have zero need for.

Quality on all of them is top notch. When you need a charcoal grill, just buy a Weber and be done with it. Take care of it and it will last 15 years at least.

An interesting grill I've seen recently is the PK Grill. Never used one, don't know much about them. Definitely pricier than a Weber. With a $20 add on for the Weber, you can grill and smoke.

THREE HUNDRED BUCKS? For a little tiny grill? The cooking area is barely larger than a Weber Go-Anywhere Charcoal grill. $50 at Amazon. I got one free as a promotional item, it's over 20 years old and still going strong. It's fucking indestructible. I did buy a new wire grill top for $10, I probably didn't need one, but after scraping it clean for 20 years with a wire brush, it was getting a little thin.

It works amazingly well and it's very efficient. It fires up in 15 minutes. After cooking, you shut the vents and it snuffs the charcoal, it's cool enough to put in your car's trunk after 20 minutes. I can start a modest fire with maybe a dozen briquettes, then snuff it out when I'm done, it saves about half the charcoal and I can re-use it the next time I light it. I add maybe 5 briquettes to the old pile, and fire it up again, and the old charcoal gets red hot really fast. Now that is how you barbecue for one.

Yea, I've got a gas stove that I bring camping but it is only used for making coffee. I did a quick amazon search and I found two things that are of interest, either of which seems nice.

Deluxe Portable Foldable Charcoal Barbecue Grill, Mini BBQ Grills (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YN481OQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_bpWNwbKC52HS9

Both look like they would be weird shapes to strap to a rack, but I've managed some bizarre rigs before.

I've been debating (for a loooong time) on either one of those or one of these. I need to just bite the bullet and pick one.

How do you like it? Is it holding up well so far?

I get a 3/4 full chimney then pour the coals into this badboy: https://smile.amazon.com/Weber-121020-Go-Anywhere-Charcoal-Grill/dp/B00004RALJ/ref=sr_1_9?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1501084333&sr=1-9&keywords=portable+grill

The grate is ~2 inches above the coals, temps are >500 degrees. Great little grill for searing.

I use a charcoal grill. That griddle was a temporary one,
I got a smaller cast iron one that is only half the size and allows me to cook the meat right on the charcoal so it becomes more crisp and flavourful

This is the bbq
