I totally understand this feeling too - been there!

I found the book What Colour is your Parachute really helpful for this - when you have a few ideas of things you might like to do and why but also feel like you need a life overhaul/plan.

here’s the book it’s a workbook and so takes some time, as it’ll only be useful if you do the exercises etc

This book is a classic as far as figuring out a career that is best suited to you. I’d recommend figuring out what type of day is best suited to your mental health. Remember that perfect jobs are pretty far and few between and you just need to prioritize what’s most important to you. I remember reading in a different book, “what kind of sh*t sandwich do you best tolerate?” Meaning, you’ll have to work your way up in any industry. Try and figure out exactly what that means for life sciences before you make the leap. Also agree completely with prioritizing your mental health. For me, exercise, meditation, a ketogenic diet, multivitamins (especially B vitamins), probiotics (garden of life has a mood one), and regular good nights of sleep go a really long way in keeping depression at bay. When I get depressed everything can feel hopeless and then I’ll say I’m going to prioritize self-care (ie all of the aforementioned) and I end up in a much better state of mind to make decisions.

First off, well played on recognizing that you are facing a challenge and reaching out for guidance. That alone is a sign of a personality trait that will help you live successfully, so good job. Since you are demonstrating initiative, then you might want to look into some self-help resources-- this is a personal journey and I recommend just browsing a bookstore or library self-improvement section for a book or author that speaks to you and begin putting that advice to work in your life. A title that you might find interesting is What Color Is Your Parachute which provides a useful decision making framework that you can tailor to your situation.

On a personal note, I've found it useful to have a feeling of success at something somewhere in life is a confidence builder that carries over into my professional life where I have tons of room to improve. For example, physical exercise (for me running) allows me to be in control, gets me healthy, and allows me to set personal goals that I can work towards-- The only improvement that I care about is versus my past self and internalizing a sense of improvement is an incredibly liberating confidence builder for me. Enjoy the journey friend and good luck.

I respect your view. For the record I don’t see a bachelors as fantastic, it’s just a base line education in today world, that you don’t have. It’s not going to get you the job but it does put you in the running. When you do get the experience, you need the degree to change careers, location, or desire promotion. I don’t know why your friends are jobless. Maybe they didn’t listen when the idea of an internship came up, or Maybe they should have went for more of a specialize degree. They are jobless still because of there choices, a lot of people in that situation go to grad school. Witch is never a bad idea!

I recommend the book “what color is my parachute and you can do anything.
