Interestingly enough, oral contraceptives were developed by John Rock, a devout Catholic who firmly believed that they would be approved under Catholic doctrine at the time. He designed the 28-day pack to meet these guidelines. This is covered extensively in Malcolm Gladwell's What the Dog Saw and I'm sure many other more academic sources.

Have you read What the Dog Saw?

Honestly, What the Dog Saw by Malcolm Gladwell (and yes, that's an affiliate link -- better to give me the 10 cents than Amazon!).

Why?

Because it's a collection of stories about ordinary people being extraordinary. Each one of us is capable of doing something great in its own little way, and it's really a shame that we don't strive to be the best we can. (I don't suggest being the best high-end prostitute you can be, though.)

After reading this book, I was inspired to start my own small hobby which is now near 1,000 person email list sharing something new to learn each weekday. I don't think it'll get to the 100,000 people I'll "need" it to get to in order to be the great thing I dream it could be, but I can't get there any faster than reality allows.
