I keep the tap running at a hot trickle and rinse the string after every tooth.

But even if you don't..
Thought floss was to mechanically loosen bacteria/biofilm so it can come off with brushing and allow toothpaste/mouthwash/plain water to reach places it normally wouldn't due to plaque?

Also op I like the floss tools with the long plastic handle (like a toothbrush)- you just replace the top plastic bit that holds the string.

Also some tips- (1) my dentist told me gums would bleed for like the first couple weeks or so once you start/or get back into flossing and to not be discouraged. It's just a sign that all the gunk you've had in there was causing inflammation. I can personally attest to this, I floss pretty damn fast and hard now and bleed very little.
(2) What's made me enjoy flossing is paying attention to the stuff that's coming out when I rinse out my mouth after flossing a couple teeth. It's like popping pimples! But it's actually good for your health!

There's a feeling of triumph in driving out the cowardly bastards from their hiding place and annihilating them with your chemical weapons.
