Regarding the oil lamp bit in the way we've used it, the wicks are held in place by a glass tube and top so they don't fall in. These are similar to the ones we have.

We originally bought them to replace missing ones from the below set and I ended up with extra since i got a 12 pack. There is no "seal" on these wolfard lamps. They have a hole on the outside to fill them and the wick rests on top of the globe with the glass bit so it won't fall in.
