For more detail I highly recommend the book Working Stiff by Judy Melinek. She became a medical examiner in New York just before 9/11 and did a lot of work with the recovered bodies.

I don't know whether or not this book would interest you but last year I read [Working Stiff: Two Years, 262 Bodies, and the Making of a Medical Examiner] (https://www.amazon.com/Working-Stiff-Bodies-Medical-Examiner/dp/1476727260/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1467165570&sr=1-1&keywords=judy+melinek) by Judy Melinek MD and really enjoyed it. She began her training as an NYC medical examiner a few months before 9/11 and has a chapter or two devoted to her work with the dead from Ground Zero. 9/11 is just a small part of her story but I wanted to recommend it because it's a great read if you like those sorts of "behind the scenes" stories.
